horrible squeak..
ok so for a couple days now this awful squeaky, annoying noise has been coming from the front left wheel well/shock? not sure what it is yet..ive sprayed the shock and the whole area with lubes and everything and if i push down on the hood above the wheel well/shock it doesnt squeak after spraying with lube but the second i start to drive it squeaks its the most annoying thing and is pissing me off so much..im going to take it to a suspension shop this week, but anyone have any idea what this is? i have a 99 v6 coupe i mean it could be the shock but its when im turning the wheel and hitting the brake sometimes as well..

9 out od 10 it is a bad shock causing the squeeak. You may be able to lube the chassis and see if that clears it up. Grab a grease gun with a flexible hose and go to town, that is if these cars even have the nipples to lube, I don't know. This is my first mustang. You can jack up the front wheel and see if the top of the shock looks wet, but if you sprayed lube there, then that simple check won't work for you. Make sure to take your car to a good reputable shop (ie. not firestone, walmart, etc.) otherwise the suspension will be broke even if it isn't. Suspension is expensive for these cars, so if it is bad you may be looking at big $$. A full kit (stock) can be found (new) for around $1000, and aftermarket racing springs and shocks (you have both) usually start around 1500 for a decent set. Keep us posted as to what the problem is when you get it diagnosed.

man mines been doing this same thing,, it does it when u steer sometimes, and when u hit a bump its a nasty squeak pop sound, i dunno how to explain it, but i hear it when i hit my brakes as well. its awful, if you find a solution, do tell!

Welcome to the wonderful world of stangs. but i had an issue with my brake pads whether i used the brakes or not i would hear a noise, check the pins that hold the pads in place cuz that was my problem, idk if it was the same noise but you can try it to rule out one possibility.

It is always nice to find out that the problem is not the expected expensive one.I lean towards the shocks because of the age of the car. I have a 98 and my shocks are going out not. Another thing it could be is the ball joint. I know they are pressed in in these cars, but it may be bad or need grease put in it. When my battery light came on, I knew it was the alternator, but I made the guy check my battery as well. I had just bought the battery a few months ago, and the alternator was going on 11 years old. I would, however, rather it have been the battery that has a free replacement than the $200 for the damn alternator. Not only is this my first mustang, it is also my first Ford. I have always done work to foreign cars and heavy diesels when I was a mechanic. I was going to help my dad work on his Ford F-100 (1979), but I looked at the batter and saw that everything was reverse hook-up and decided to stay away from ford from then on. That was many many years ago.

My 2000 GT does that too mainly when traveling over bumps and such. I thought it was the shocks/struts , but I just replaced those a few months ago. I'm thinking it could be the spring isolators, since I didn't have those replaced when the lowering springs were installed. That or maybe all the crappy stock rubber bushings need to be replaced.
