Default Flowmaster for an 08 GT

Hey all. Long time listener, first time caller. I did a search and could not find what I was looking for, so sorry if this discussion is beating a dead horse. I have an 08 GT and want to get a flowmaster axle back exhaust. I believe the inlet/outlet size I need is 2.25". If I wanted to get 2.5" inlet/outlet, using the stock pipes, will it still work? The reason I ask is because the tips I want to get with the mufflers has an 2.5" fitting.

Also, is there a noticeable sound difference between the Flowmaster American Thunder and the super 44's? Thank you in advance for any help you could provide.

I'm not sure what you're asking. If I understand correctly, you are mistaken. Your stock pipes are 2.5", not 2.25". So yes, if you got 2.5" axle-backs, they would obviously work, being as how the piping is the same size as your stock pipes are.

I have SLP Loudmouths with 2.5" piping and they fit perfectly.

stock your car has 2.5" tubing and i suggest you go larger in tips...flowmasters arent a favorite of mine. most people here will suggest Borla, magnaflow and SLP over chokemasters. YOUTUBE will help you a lot as well

I second that. If the outlet is 2.5", that is way too small and the holes in the bumper will not be filled in and it will look puny.

Unless you have your heart set on Flows, you should look around. Just remember that they aren't your only option.

Like Stanger suggested, YouTube is a wonderful tool for aiding in the hassle of choosing an exhaust. I wasn't sure what to get either. I went on YouTube, listened to SLP, Borla (which was my second favorite), Corsa, Magnaflow, Pypes, Flowmasters, Bassani, etc. The SLP's were exactly what I wanted and I was sold the second I heard them.

Always remember that videos aren't always an accurate representation of the car's sound. Some sound better in person, some sound worse. Look for videos that have an array of angles and distances i.e. close to the car, further away from the car. Also look for videos that do passes, revs, idles, and start-ups that way you can get the best possible idea to how the exhaust will sound.

Thank you for all the replies. You did answer what I was asking and thank you. The exhaust tips I was going to get were 2.5" at the muffler and 4" at the bumper, so it should fill out the cutots nicely. For whatever reason, I thought the stock piping at the muffler was 2.25", but if you say it is 2.5", well that is good enough for me. Thanks again!

I don't know about Mac, but from what I have heard, they are pretty good.

4" will fill the cut-outs very nicely.

Don't get Flowmasters......They sounds almost identical to stock.

SLP or Borla all the way.

I have Magnaflow Magnapacks on mine which are similar to the loudmouths in design. Sound pretty close to what was in that video too.

Note. while the super agressive exhaust does sound great and turn heads, you might want to consider how much of it will resonate to inside the car while driving.

In hindsite I kind of wish I'd have gone with the reuglar magnaflows vs. Magnapacks just to cut down on the drone heard inside while driving. If you like hearing your stereo or holding a conversation with a passanger, the drone can get kind of old. Some of my problem could be form the Bassani X-pipe which I've been told is known to be noisy.

Mine is a 2000 GT so maybe the soundproofing is better on the newer models ...

I'm sorry, but my car with flowmasters sounds nothing like stock. Even before the headers and xpipe, it sounded nothing like stock.

Your car is also totally different from ours....

The MAC sounds really nice along with SLP, Borla, and Magnaflow. The Pypes also sounds good but they're pretty damn loud. And as to the drone issue almost every exhaust I've heard has some drone in it, but that's not all due to the axle-back you pick.

Plus, our cars are much more insulated than previous models.

The SLP Loudmouth are basicallys straight throughs. The Power-Flo is the Loudmouth with a muffler on it.

I will give you a word of warning; if you choose SLP Loudmouths and you combine them with long tubes and an X pipe in the future, your **** will be the loudest Mustang in town.

Not if they're shorties....which is all I found. Regular length x-pipes work with stock exhaust manifolds.

The only real difference is that yours is a 3V. If you put flowmasters on there, its gonna sound quite a bit different then stock.
