Default Time to play the game "what is wrong with the focus?"

So got my old lady a 00 Focus about a year ago and it has been bullshit ever since. Lets see if someone can help me figure out what the hell is up with this car.

So the car has a missfire and is running like **** for the past 4 months. I do some checking and find out there is a recall on the fuel pump for this problem. I go and have the dealer do it cause its free as its a recall. Get the car back and it still does it, the plugs are not white anymore (running way lean with the bad pump) but still misses.

So I check the coil it comes up as going bad from my tests it out of rang for what it should be doing. I replace it and car runs great yesterday morning. I take it to the gym with the g/f and sure enough ti starts to do it again, not nearly as bad, but still doing it.

Next Im going to swap plugs, and check the wires for ohm's and see if they are good or not, it also has a new fuel filter as of a few weeks ago.

So any one else want to give some guess on wtf is wrong with this car. I mean I love Ford, but damn this car sucks.

my firebird had the missfire, did the coil and didnt fix it, all new plugs and wires solved the problem.

Go with a good tune up and then see where you are. Sometimes a bad plug or wire can drive you crazy. Good Luck !!!!

If it's been running lean for a while, change the plugs, since they could be glazed from the high heat.

My SVT Focus did the same exact thing when we first got it. We bought it and drove from Tennessee to Alabama to pick it up. It drove fine the whole way home, but the next day it started running like ****. All we did was replace the plugs and wires and it never did it again. The plugs didn't look bad at all, but who knows.

Well so far with plugs and wires and maf cleaned it has been good. But when I did the coil it was fine for 1 day then started that **** again. So we will see what happens.

Well I wish you the best of luck. I loved my Focus, but it was always such a pain in the *** to keep running. The alternator went out twice within four months and the starter went out a month after that.....

check if ur coil went out, i know you said that you just barely bought the coil pack but you might want to check it again

Coil is fine its the fist thing I checked once the car was not running 100% after I installed the new one. Its well within the Ohm rang it should be so its not that.

Ohms insn't always a accurate check of a coil. Is it throwing a misfire code? Try running it at night and look for signs of arcing wires.

really, thats how your supposed to check coils. if it doesnt read between a certain range than it could be going bad or is shorted. we all know if the meter reads OL than the coil has a open in it.

All a ohms check will do is tell you if the wire can sustain a current, fine for a quick check. By doing a voltage drop test you will be tell if the coil is using the available current efficiently. If the problem is at idle ohm's will tell you what you need, if it's a high rpm or under load issue a voltage drop test is more accurate.

a OHMs check will tell you if the the circuit or wire you are checking is complete. when you check COILs your OHMs readings will be significantly higher than a wire check. why is it higher well thats because there is more resistance in a coil because a coil is used to either step up or step down voltage.

i never heard of a voltage drop check and i have been working with basic electrical circuits for the past 5 years on diesel generators

a month ago i had a generator come in because it wouldnt build up volts and after i did some quick trouble shooting i finally made it to the generator exciter field wires. i did a OHMs check on the circuit to find out that my OHMs readings were double what my schematic said it should be. i was supposed to see a OHMs reading of .65-.75 but i was seeing .150+. to make sure that i isolated the problem i swapped some cards and i also checked another generator to make sure that my problem was the exciter field windings. we cant replace those so that means we have to order a new generator and those cost $24,000.

Here is a write up on how to perform a voltage drop test http://www.engine-light-help.com/voltage-drop.html This will tell you how the coil is working when it has power instead of being a dead circuit.

Also the foci is tossing a SES light again as of yesterday. I have not looked at it yet so I gotta pull the code and see why its upset this time. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say lean on bank 1 code again as usual.
