5.4l master rebuild kit
I'm getting close to starting this project possibly, slowly gathering parts. bout ready to purchase a rebuild kit. I did a quick google search and found a kit w/o timing guides or tensioners for $880.30. Any of you 5.4 guys find any better deals or recommend a kit. I'm not looking to piece this kit together, i would rather just buy everything in 1 package so i dont risk forgeting things.

What kind of a kit are you looking at? just a new gasket, rings, bearings etc.. or all of that plus rods and pistons? and what are you looking for if you are looking for rods and pistons, more ci, more compression for nitrous or n/a or less for boost? lots of things you need to know before hand.

^thanks spike, i gotta start saving up, ive never done a build where i had to price everything out, at school they buy the parts and just tell us dont break em lol. i didnt expect a rebuild kit to be that much
Ya i'm definitely getting excited but when i mean starting to get close i mean like next summer maybe. I was gonna do the whole project at school because a twin post lift would be mighty handy to do this and they got a parts wash bin and everything but Doug(my teacher) got some places to donate engines so now we have a whole bunch of projects. gonna try to knock them out quick though so i can get a few weeks towards the end of the school year to do some work on my project

I'd check www.rockauto.com and get a gasket set. Are the bore and crank in good shape? good to know before you buy the bearings and rings. and mod motors don't use cam bearings. Probably come out cheaper than $880

The cranks fine and there is no serious gouges in the walls and i got some good, equal compression test readings, but that was a long time ago and i cant remember what i got. What do you mean there are no cam bearings? something has to holding the cam in place while it spins

How about that. sry for my noob moment, this is the second OHC engine i've ever worked on(where i've needed to pull the cam out). The first one was a 4 banger diesel volkswagon from an old rabbit or something. Anyway, the caps on it had removeable bearing just like the mains and rods.

Lol, i guess i should have tried the parts desk first. What kind of a price can you give me? I'm sure i'm not quite fiscally ready to purchase yet if you catch my drift, but what would i be looking at.
