Default speedo cable removal

I have a 92 LX 5.0 with a 5spd T5 trans. I want to disconnect the speedo cable down at the trans to exempt the emmisions this year;due to the car not having cats/smog pump. In my state any vehicle driven under 5k miles per year is exempt from emmisions testing. ( I normally would drive this car under 5k year, but the previous owner already has put 4.5k on it since last inspection and I'm gonna go over, meaning I will need cats and a smog pump. What/how do I go about doing this? Do I just need another cable to cut short and put into the existing sending unit and tie up the existing cable. Or do I just pull the cable out of the sender unit or will it leak this way. I am confused on how to do this any info would be helpful/appreciated.

Thanks

Its mechanical on the older cars like yours so all you need to do is get under the car and disconnect the line from the tranny and this will stop the speedo from reading. I can't remember if it will leak or not with that out.

if that is a problem he could always disconnect it from the gauges as well

no need to remove the VSS, as the speedo cable just clips into it...remove the clip and tie the cable outta' the way....

actually it wouldn't be that bad if I went over anyway, I was looking today and I have all of the smog pump stuff hooked up; I would just need cats.
