Default Catback Exhaust 98 GT

I have a 98 GT auto, time 2 start updating the exhaust but need some opinions 1st which would give me the most HP, 2nd which sounds the best, 3rd which would give me the most HP sound the best and not be the most expensive on the block? I mean Magnaflow, Pypes, Flowmaster, Slp, etc. If any1 has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Do you have to go through emissions where you live?? Also, would you rather have a deep throaty sound or just a mellow v8 sound?

Sounds like you want a cat-back which won't give you jack for power. As for sound, depends what sound you want.

Yes, do have emissions so no off-road systems looking for a deep rugged sound. so the catback would not add any additional HP?????? if that is the case bottom line would be a rugged sound.

A catback alone will add little power around maybe 5rwhp. However the mid pipe will hold a good amount of power in it and even high-flow catted pipes will add some good power gains. I dropped 3 tenths in the 1/4 with nothing but a mid pipe change same temps and all at the track. I would still change the catback because that's where most of the sound comes from and well whats a mustang without a nice sounding exhaust setup, that alone is what i did it to mine.

Now you have three choices for a mid pipe. You can go H-pipe which comes stock with your car and gives a nice deep rumble like an old muscle car. It will make more torque but slightly less hp then an X-pipe.

2nd choice is an X-pipe which is a higher pitched raspy sound like a european v8. This will add more top end power but less torque.

The 3rd option is the Prochamber which is only made by MAC and is kind of like mixing both the X and the H-pipe. The sound is very different from both of the others.

Power differences between all 3 are very little around 2-3rwhp difference. I would suggest going onto youtube or mustangexhaust.com and listening to a lot of sound clips to see what you like.

Catbacks are a different beast just go with what you like the sound of and fits your budget.

Good luck w/ that. I doubt the inspectors are clueless to what an uncatted car smells like.

Thanks for all the info catback is where i am going to start will take a listen to some clips and when it is time it sounds like an H-Pipe is what i am looking for never really knew the difference between that and a x-Pipe. Thanks Again

cat-back doesn't give you **** for horsepower unless you do headers and a mid pipe. if you do headers, do long tubes and you'll get some good horsepower gains. the stock short tube headers aren't very restrictive.

also, before you do this expensive set up, i'd look into a PI swap.

http://www.stangmods.com/Ford-Racing...ge-p/00956.htm

Here is the PI swap it stands for performance improvment

this is a little expensive but I hear it's worth it and to be honest I don't think 1200 is that crazy

what it does is turn you engine into a 99+

it's kind of a must for any 96-98 mustang cause it gives you alot more to build on later

Then I gotta say, the inspectors in your state are insanely stupid if they can't smell the fact that the car doesn't have cats.
