Ok well before any money can be spent on anything I have to get new brakes... I think I'm just gonna take it to Firestone for the free check up to make sure they can resurface the rotors....

My question is IF the rotors are OK to resurface what pads should I buy to increase braking performance and is there any cheap mods to help braking without buying a whole new system... just a reminder the car is a 2000 GT

 

First off wrong forum this has nothing to do with 4.6 tech moving...

After that I did my brakes a bit ago and just resurfaced my rotors and got better pads from Satisfied Brakes company and then did stainless lines up front and all new brake fluid and its much better and was pretty cheap compared to just doing the cobra fronts.

 

did u have a shop install stainless lines?

 

Adding the stainless braided lines to the front make a huge difference in pedal feel. It is by no means difficult but you'll want to make sure the company that you get them from includes all the correct parts. More than once I've been send the wrong banjo bolt or missing a copper washer. It's not difficult if you're comfortable with bleeding your brakes. If you're uncertain, don't play around with them.

 

I would think you know me better then that by now. I installed and did everything myself. The only thing I did not do was cut the rotors as I don't have a machine to do that or I would of.

The stainless lines are a simple unbolt old lines which are rubber and install new lines (one per side on the front) and that's it for the stainless line upgrade. Makes the pedal feel much better and I can modulate my brakes better as I have better feel. I would also recommend the brake pad company I used as they are great and have many choices for pads. You can get a set of pads for the whole car for less then 100bucks shipped to your door though the advancedauto parts online website. Its hard to beat that for world class brake pads. For you I would recommend the "Pro Ceramic" pads they sell.

 

X2, Satisfied is amazing. If you want more options for stores, Tire Rack also sells all their stuff. I also would look into their GS6 pads since they are comparable to EBC green and Hawk HPS. But, if you plan on doing the brakes yourself (which you should because it's stupid easy), take your rotors to a machine shop instead. A machine shop will probably be cheaper and quicker (1 hour, $10-$20/disc). Lastly, before you take the lines off, GO OUT AND GET A FLARE WRENCH. I already almost stripped the flare nut on the passenger side using a regular wrench where half the nut is rounded off. I got lucky though and it was still usable. However, if you get a shop to do it, make sure they cut the rotors since most shops skip this important step.

I would say that if you need rotors and pads, then go with the cobra kit. My brakes are crapping out and I need rotors and pads all around so I ordered the front brake kit (should be here today, I hope) and then I'll do the rears here shortly. $430 shipped to your door for the Mach 1 brake kit (same as cobra except no cobra on caliper), 13" brembo rotors, pads, ss line, and all hardware.

 

went to firestone for the checkup all i need is front pads and fluid flush... how important is fluid flush? its 90 f'in bucks... and spike u said Pro Ceramics for my car right..

 

checker auto parts also sells satisfied pads
i just redid all my brakes all 4 routers and all 4 wheels with ceramic pads
came out to $225 not to bad if u can do it yourself

 

thats alot You can buy fluid and do it yourself for a bottle of 6buck fluid.

 

Ive never had my brakes changed/replaced on my Mustang yet....

 

isnt brake fluid change really tough to get it all out and ****.

 

Its very easy to do if you have ever done brakes before.

If you don't own a hanyes or chilton manual for your car go get one it will tell you about things like this and how to do them. They are cheap and any autoparts store has them.

 

If you need new pads, you need your rotors turned. Not doing so will give you a bad brake job and lead to noise and bad braking. Make sure that if they do the brakes, they turn the rotors.
