Default New to Ford

Hey, after getting beat for years as a camaro man, I recently purchased my first ford ever, 2004 gt. I love that you have an endless amount of parts you can purchase for mustangs... anyway I have a few questions...

I like the deep dish bullitt wheels, but on the front of the car, are the wheels any deeper, or are they the same as stock. I have been thinking of ordering a set so do i just need the 2 rears in the 10.5 size and 2 OE size ones for the front...

Also, whats the deal with the chips on ebay that claim to add 10-20 hp but only cost 10-15 bucks? Are these crap, (the price seems to indicate this!)

That's it, thanks

2004GT white, grille delete, mach one chin spoiler, bullitt hood stripe, fade rocker stripes, rear letter fills, roush rear insert, flowmaster 40 series, k&N filter, pacifica x-pipe on the way

I have the stockers up front and 17 x 10.5 replicas on the back. They are not a perfect match but they are really darn close. I wont be buying replicas for the front because they are so close.

The chips on ebay are not a good idea. Buy an SCT Xcal from here or somewhere else for a legit tune.

Here is a pic of the wheels

:iamwithst the most offset color ive seen was the black replics and black stock. If your wheels are black bullits, id say buy 17x9 for front and 17x10.5 for back. If they are anthracite or chrome, just buy the 2 rear wheels

How much were the tires for the back? I'm thinking of replacing the 2 back as well. Can you take a pic from a low point looking at the back of the car?

Rear tires are 315/35/17 Sumitomo HTR and are now 110 each, I paid 119 a while ago. I got them at www.tirerack.com and got the wheels here at MT.

They are a great tire for the $$, not the best by any means but at least $50 cheaper than the next lowest priced in that size.

Here is as good of a back shot as I have.

Ford sells them through FRPP, but there was never a factory option for black bullits. You might have had them on your car when you bought it but they were an add-on by the dealer if you got it new or another person if you bought it used.

Like I said, ford doesnt offer black bullitts OE (original equipment) off the lot. As said above, they were a dealer option add-on, so YOU should be doing your research.

How close is the color, a friend of mine has a set of bullitts on his 96 gt and they look a lighter grey than mine, The ones on my car a fairly dark but his a a lot lighter. Also, good luck with sumitomo tires, but the car does look badass!

its the same chit though, you know what I mean, there arent after market wheels they're an option, just like the mach 1000...That wasnt the point of the post I made...I'm saying the OPTIONAL black bullits you can get, dont match the aftermarket ones...

the black optional ffrp (happy?) are like a more flat/anodized black, and the wheel replicas are a shinier/glossier black

The stock rims are 17X8. The after-market bullet are 17 x 9 which will allow for a wider tire. Most guys go with the 17 x 9's for the front and then get the 17 x 10.5's for the back.

The "chips" that you refer to are nothing more than a resister that gets spliced into the temperature sensor line that runs into your intake. This sensor records the temp of the incomming air and the cars computer uses this data to help determine how much fuel to add.

The sensor works by producing a voltage that corresponds to temperature. As temo goes up, I believe the voltage increases. By using a resister you effectively "trick" the car into thinking that the incomming air is colder. As a result more fuel is added to account for more oxygen in colder air. If it were that simple it might work. But, there are some problems with this logic:

1 - By adding more fuel, the car will run rich which actually results in reduce hp and not an increase. To get more power by adding fuel, you also need to add more oxygen.

2 - The temp sensor is not the only sensor that the car uses to adjust fuel addition. For example, the O2 sensors provide vital data on the a/f ratio so that fuel can be adjusted. As a result, what ever gains they lead you to belive you would get, should be negated by the O2 sensors as they try to make corrections. At least, to an extent.

In short, these things are a waste.

I have had the tires for 15K now and they have been awesome for the coin. They hook up reasonably well and are great in dry or even rain. I was driving 65-70 in crazy rain today with a 315 and not slidding at all.

But on my 04 OEM bullits they are a little less shiny as the replicas. The color is very close but it looks like the replicas have a better or brighter clear coat. It is not that noticable unless I point it out to people
