Ok Im tired of driving around with my AC compressor clutch rattling like a tin can. I WAS gonna pay a shop to do it but since I just got in this house and bills are higher than a cats ***, I got to try it my self. The good news is that the compressor never failed. Meaning the inside junk is still all in good shape (orafice tube, accumilator ect.) Should be anyway. Right now the AC still blows cold air just like the day I bought it. So Im thinkin I can go pay a shop 20 bucks or so to discharge my freon drive it back to the house, put it up on stands and yank the compressor out throw the new one in and take it back to the shop to have it charged.

My question is this.... Besides getting the oil in the compressor right.... what else will I need to look out for while Im doing this?

 

the oil that goes in the system will come from the shop that recharges your system. the oil goes in with the freon.

make sure you use new o-rings too.

They do make DIY recharging kits so it may be worth it to get that so you only pay for them to discharge it. In fact, I think Walmart sells the recharge kits but I'm not sure.

 

Why is it gonna cost 300? MMR sells a new OEM AC compressors for $180

 

Im just figureing high for everything. Dont really know what it will cost to have the system discharged. I have been told that to CHARGE it that will cost me about 75 bucks. But yeah If less than 300 then Im golden.
