Default 3.73 gears for my 2003 mustang

I am thinking about getting a set of 3.73 gears for my 03 GT 5spd. Anyone have any experience with these gears ? I am curious as to what I should expect different. Thanks for your help

I am running 410s with a 26" tall tire and 5 speed. at 70 mph I am running 2150 rpm. on a Autometer Cobalt C2 tach and factoty tach says the same. I used a Prediator turner to make rear end adjustments. This should be pretty close. Is anybody out there running about the same?

the gears actually take away from your top speed. the higher you go the faster your acceleration the lower your top speed.

190kmh = roughly 118 mph.

I think it should go faster than that stock. going to a lower ratio gear (higher numerically) your top speed would decrease, not increase. I have 3.73s and I have buried my speedo needle. thats a lot more than 118mph.

Do you have a chip or programmer to correct the speedo?? Is there a govenor on these cars?? I was told there wasn't. Cause I know they said my speedo would be put out about 14% after putting these gears in..wich would be about 30kmh, so when the speedo says 220 i'm actually only doing 190 and the needle would be buried. I guess you would know best cause you already have the gears...let me know...thanks

Does anybody know what the stock gearing is ? As for the govenor , I have "heard" , that they are set at 135 mph. Don't know for sure , but that seem's to be the fastest I am able to get the car to. Stock GT with CIA,70mm T.b. ,exuast. What are you trying to accomplish ? A land speed record or make the car really GO when you step on the gas ?

GET 4.10's!!!!!
at 70mph your around 2,500rpm. Before 4.10's I got 18-19 mpg. Now I get between 17-18mpg and I drive the highway everyday. You will regret it if you get 3.73's.

Is your stang a 5spd? Is that 5th gear then at 70mph at 2500rpm? Whats the top speed then??

When I had a GT, I had 4.10s and I drove it everyday. Didn't notice that much change in gas mileage at all, but was alot more fun driving. Don't fear the gear.

Thats what I chose. but many will tell you otherwise. I'll say this...If you ever plan on getting a supercharger or turbo, and still use your car often on the street, I would get 3.73s.

OK..thanks for your input and advice. I think I am going to go with the 3.73's in this stang because I am hoping to get a cobra or mach in a few years so I probably won't do much to this stang as far as a supercharger or turbo goes.

well, what I was saying was that if you ARE getting a supercharger and are going to drive on the street...get 3.73's.

If you ARE NOT getting a supercharger then 4.10's would be better cause they give you more punch. and with no s/c you wont have tons of power...gobs of power and 4.10's can eat tires.

all of this is just opinion stuff anyway.

oh sorry...just re read that slower..haha..I got what your sayin now. What about the shifting with 4.10's ?? Some say you shift alot more cause the gears go so fast. I guess my main thing that I want is a quick car but still has to remain decent on the highway for traveling. Also I was gonna go with the SCT Livewire for a tuner...have you heard anything about it good/bad?

SCT is good.

with 4.10's your first gear will be very short. you wont have to shift anymore than if you had 3.73's. sometimes ppl get better gas milage because they end up using 4th where before they were using 3rd. If you aren;t getting a power adder...get 4.10's. the only reason I got 3.73s is cause I plan on getting a s/c in the future.
