Default Something is loose in the back

Well, it is time for the car to go away for the winter, but looks like I may have no choice anyway.

I have a clanging sound comming from the rear. It sounds like a light, metal on metal taping sound from the rear. It is bit high pitch and does not sound like anything heavy.

I hear it when I accelerate, or let off the gas. As if each time the power is transferred, it clangs.....just once. It is not continuous, just when accelerating, or lifting off the gas.

I crawled under the car, but could not see anything. I need to get it up in the air and look around.

I have some concern because I have noticed that when I go over speed bumps recently, I can really feel it on the stick-shift. Not sure if the two are related.

I am suspecting a bad universial joint which would be pretty simple to fix I think. Just hope it is nothing serious.
