Default Royal Purple... Is It Worth It??

I own a 2000 GT with 50,000 miles on it. Im about to change the motor oil, transmission fluid and diff fluid. Is it worth using Royal purple or should i use something else?

Redline, Royal Purple, and Mobil 1 are top notch. I myself use Mobil 1 for the engine and Redline for the rest due to cash and the fact that the trans/diff has 30k intervals instead of 5k so money is better spent for that.

redlines not much more then mobile one... so yeah i say its worth it. autozone has 5 qts of castrol full synth + a bosh filter for $25. so ill prolly pick up 10 quarts and 2 filters for my moms car. then after that, redline it is!

not to highjack the thread, but what are some advantages of full synthetic over conventional?

The main advantage is that it's more pure since it's man-made. Therefore, the oil is more uniform and can withstand higher temps, lower temps, pressure, etc.

there are two types of full synthetics. one is type the 3 (mobil one, american castrol, and a few others) that still come from fossil fuels. however type 4 (eropean castrol, and i think royal purple/redline) are strickly man made using no fossil fuels.

take anything from bobistheoilguy with a grain of salt, there are a shitload of product reps and salesman on that site.

and mobil 1 is still a group 4, not sure where you got that group 3 thing from (probably BITOG)

so is there a "time frame" for an engine to where you shouldn't run synthetic oil in it? or is it treated just like any other oil? basically, i've got 48k on my sixxer, is it too late to make the switch?

I've gotten so sick of seeing this question. First off... anything you read or hear is bullshit. Just ignore what everyone, including me, says. Bobtheoil-shmo may or may not know dik.

Here's the truth from a scientific perspective without any bias for brand or type:

OIL IS OIL. Period. there is no debating it. it's never too late to use a synthetic that matches the manufacturer specification for your year/make/model and engine. If you flog your car, then see your local mustang tuner to get a recommendation for your use case. Synthetic does many things better than conventional oil, including eroding your savings. It's not "worth" it for just about anyone that properly maintains their car and doesn't whip it like they stole it.

That's the thing.. I don't give two squirts of cold **** about the topic. I'm just sick and tired of seeing this same dumb question asked over and over because people are more willing to read some fabricated bullcrap from Joe Assclown and Bob Bonehead instead of just stopping typing and starting thinking for just a second.

Read the damn bottles. Says safe for any on like all of them. If that doesn't do the trick, look up the word synthetic so you know what it means then think about the question why would someone make a synthetic if there's conventional that works just great. Simple... to suck 4.50 a quart more from your wallet with the laughable promise that there's some magic that will keep you from blowing your engine despite treating your car like a nickel ***** that likes getting jackhammered in the doo-doo hole with a lawn dart.

Fact of the matter is that at reasonable oil change intervals (3-5K) there is exactly dik for difference between the two. Stretch out the change intervals or drive your car like a teenager and you just start to see the benefits of synthetic. Really abuse it (I mean beat that bitch like it owes you money) and you'll get a tad bit ore benefit but not enough to justify the cost and here's why:
I could change my oil 6 times with <insert regular oil brand here> for what it costs to do it once with any $6 a bottle synthetic. If I want I can change my oil every 800 miles and still come out on top of the dollar game, have zero negative result and look just as stupid.

I'm not calling anyone in particular stupid, dumb, a ***** or two squirts of cold urine. I am calling this topic lame and the people that ask these sorts of questions lazy. If you just use that 6.5lbs of sludge in your head (not you specifically, every-damn-body) and think about the question then you'll come up with the answer and look really smart cuz it's not hard to figure out.

Lastly: I repeat "synthetics do many things better than conventional oils". The single best thing they do better is make you poor. If your car came with synthetic, keep putting it in. The manufacturer seemed to think their engine would cook up conventional (corvette... hmmmm run hot much). If it came with petrol based slime.. then use whatever gives you the firmest erection.
