Default My Bullit Shift ****

Hey, I just bought an original bullit shift **** from MT. I went to screw it on, when i tightend it as tight as it goes the numbers on the **** are facing the complete wrong direction but when i loosen it a little so the numbers line up the **** is too loose to stay put. i cant get it to line up right and be tight at the same time - what should i do?

I have the same issue. Actually, mine is the Mach 1 ****, but I think it's pretty much the same as the Bullit. The Mach 1 **** worked perfectly with the stock shifter handle, but when I installed the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter the numbers wouldn't line up right. The gear numbers are pointing toward the steering wheel! I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the steeda shifter handle threads, because it worked fine with the stock shifter. Try it on your stock shifter handle and then you'll know if it's the **** or the handle threads. Sorry, that's the best I can come up with.

Try using some washers above the boot cover or a nut and a washer mounted under the boot cover.

I dont think you will need a nut with a couple of washers or just 1 should do the trick,if its too visible on top of the boot cover then place it under.

A jam nut works best under a shift ****.

Yeah, either the washer idea or grind down a bit on the shifter handle so you can turn it a bit further

On mine, there is a small locking hex nut on the back to tighten the **** in any position you want.

I dunno about any of the other ones, but on my OEM shifter, there is a small metal peice inside of the shifter that goes in 3 different ways. Its a rounded off triangle. If yours has that, take it out and try flipping it around and seeing if it will line up correctly.

This is probably your best bet, looks cleaner. My car came with this ****, they actually came stock on the "35th anniv. package", when the Bullit came out they started calling it the Bullit **** :dontknow: but it isnt very straight on mine either! I tried putting on the "Hurst T-handle" and it never twisted on or aligned the way i wanted :violent1:

I have a T handle that wont line up exactly as I want but have adapted to it. Think I will try the jam nut fix.
