Default Trak-Lok?

Does anybody have experience with a 31 spline Trak-Lok Differential? There is someone local that is selling one brand new for a good price. I know is the same differential that came on the 03-04 cobras, but i'm not to sure how good they are. Any input would be helpful.

there are 2 different versions of the Ford 31 spline trac-loc. the one in the Cobras has carbon fiber friction plates and the standard ones have steel friction plates. in addition, you'll need matching 31 spline axles, axle shaft seals, axle shaft bearings and ABS tone rings.

I used one in mt Gt for years and every spring it would get a new clutch pack and load spring, never had any issues wth it, even launching at 6k on slicks

Can i reuse the 4.10s gears that i have already? All i would need would be a master bearing kit? I have less than 2k miles on them. Or do u recommend new gears while am at it? Thanks.

you can re-use your gears, 8.8 is a 8.8 and since it's all still fresh, I'd say in addition to the axle bearings and axle seals, you'll need 1 pinion bearing and a pinion seal, nut and crush washer and fluids

Randy whats the difference in price between the two and does it really make a difference with the cobra diff?....

Oh and would the Ford axles be a cheaper alternative to the Moser axles that AM or MT sells?

well its a 2 way street so-to speak. the 31 spline Cobra diff wth c/f clutches is @$10.00 cheaper than the one wth steel friction plates, but the Cobra wth the c/f posi clutch plates is not serviced by Ford att, so when it wears-out, you either put the steel plates in or contact Eaton for the c/f plates

as far as the axles go, I sold many sets of the Frpp wth no problems and the price was not bad either. I run Moser in mine, because they pay contingency $$ at selected races and that sometimes influences what I buy
