Default black boxes in cars

do our 99-04 mustangs contain these so called black boxes that record speed/or speeding and driving habits? ive heard that newer model corvettes do, which makes think they might be in mustangs since they are built for performance.

ha ha...no kidding huh....I wonder if the data recorded could void someones warranty if Ford hooks the car up to the computer and it clearly is being abused??

My sisters Envoy has On-Star, and if she gets to over 100, they call in and tell her to slow down. If you do it several times, they actually call the police on you.

No ****. I would be pissed too, especially since on-star isn't free. It's like $500 a year. That would suck, someone you pay for service turns you in for speeding!!!!

Not sure if this is what you are talking to but its my understanding that most cars now if you are involved in an accident the cops can gets your last recorded speed from the car computer. I have heard about this but not sure how it works.

From what Ive read in the past it is continuously recording but at 5 second intervals. At the end of 5 seconds it starts over. When the airbag diploys, the previous 5 seconds of data is saved. This is all done in the airbag module. (pic attached)Data saved varies car to car. On my 01 it only saves 4 or 5 parameters. The newer the car, the more it stores in most cases. Parameters can include: speed, rpms, steering angle, brake position, seatbelt usage, throttle position, ect. There are lots on some cars.
Found a link way back that listed all the cars that use the new standard in this application of data recovery. GM uses it in more cars than anyone else followed by Ford, then Chrysler. A few scattered imports here and there but not too many as of yet. The imports use different hardware and software that is unique to them.
There is special hardware and software needed to access what is stored.
