i hate this car
Well now I have another problem, wit my p o s. I bought this car and from day one have had nothing but problems. I’m new to the mustang scene but I must say really don’t think they are built all that good. Anyway now for my two problems, the first is now every time I have my car higher then 3000 rpm’s I hear this what sounds like loud wining sound from the engine. My first guess would be a belt and when I push the clutch in it goes away immediately. Which belt would that be and is it a easy fix if it is in fact the belt. As for my second problem that has come up now is when I down shift and let my foot off the clutch I hear this loud clunk. It also happens when I shift up to but not every time but it does not grind going into the gears and goes in fairly smooth just after its in I here that noise only once. Sounds like it’s coming from directly under the stick. Open to any suggestions on what the hell that might be besides my f en car is falling apart.

first problem sounds like the TOB...I could be wrong. mine squeaks from time to time....I hit the clutch and it goes away. I have had mine checked..its still fairly new so no problems. I would just get the TOB replaced. I dunno about the second problem. Sorry your having troules with your car....mine has had very few problems.

You bought a car that has gotten a good beat down. Like mentioned above sounds like throw out bearing. The good news is that your Saleen is worth fixing so dont get frustrated. However if you dont fix the small problems now you may get more later and before you know it it may seem like a huge problem.

Is your car supercharged? Second, its normal for a car to make noises coming from the shifter area if you have an aftermarket shifter...hell my car makes noises all the time...plus from the looks of your avatar pic you have a vert...verts are noisy as hell if you didn't know this by now..

my car whines at high RPMs too... some cars do it, some don't... its no big deal... nothing is broken or working wrong... its one of the pulleys... prolly the smog pump...
and the clunk... sounds to me like you are shifting it hard... this is also normal for the rears on many mustangs if you shift really hard and don't know how to shift correctly...
If you are driving the car nice n easy then you have a problem...
but it does sound like the car has been abused a bit

Ok well I don’t know if it’s the tob cus like I said it really sounds like a belt noise and not a good one. To answer the other question no I don’t have a supercharger and as for my shifting it happens more when I shift easy then when I shirt hard. Honestly more concerned about the wining noise right now cus like I said when I drive it starts around 3k and is really loud by 5k… loud and embarrassing. Which belt only runs while u drive it because the noise don’t happen in neutral revving it and only starts after 3k under that no noise. and i dont abuse it at all just at the track. its not even my main car.

First, just like i thought about my saleen when i bought it. it looks sweet, it's a different breed, limited, but 9 years old. so things will be worn out, break or sound like a gutted pig squealing, maybe on the pig part. When you buy that older of a car, you have to be prepared to change some worn out parts. I've changed out a crap load while i was waiting on my 5.4 intake adapter plates, had nothing better to do.
Well, try the belt spray, sparingly, that's craps not to good for your belts. if that stops the squeal, then i would change the belt out. IF the spray doesn't work, then I would have to say the TOB,throw out bearing. I changed out mine in my 95 GT when i put a new clutch in it. i didn't lube it like a mugg when i installed it and it squealed, all the time, unless i barely touched the clutch. That, you will need to lower your tranny, i would lube the sh*t out of it with grease. If it's not that, then we'll have to think harder about it or hopefully someone will chime in with problems they've had.
The clunk could be something internal with the engine, or it could be something loose underneath your car clunking. I kept hearing something clunk under my car about a week ago, felt under my feet to the right, like the tranny, and i though...oh hell no. new tranny, it would do it when i would shift here and there, but i found out it was my H pipe loose at the driver side header, but the h pipe was tapping my k member where it bolts under the car right beside the h pipe. tighten things and no more clunking sounds.
With older cars you have to be patient or they will make you tear your hair out. Just get your car on a lift or maybe jackstands and look here and there under it, shake your exhuast around or see if it's almost touching something, almost but when your motor moves from the TQ, then it touches.
Good luck on finding the problem and getting it straigten out.

Ok well going to try the belt spray tomorrow. As for the clunking I was wrong its not when I shift. My friend and me just installed the cold air intake and took it for a ride wit the top down so we could here everything better. I put it in gear let my foot off the clutch and hit the gas. Right when I hit the gas would here something clunk. It did it 9/10 times when I hit the gas hard enough. It would also clunk in every gear while already in gear, not when shifting like I thought before. I guess will put it on the lift this week end to make sure everything is all tight and go from there.

If it started doing it after intake install then it may be the intake pipe banging against something in the engine bay. Remember when you rev the engine it moves but with it in gear it will move even more. You might think intake has enough clearance but it may be banging against something.
One more thing how many miles on the belts? Almost forgot I once had a noise like that and it turned out to be idler pulley, bearing was going out. To test spray some wd40 in the bearing and see if stops temporary as it will not stop squeak for long but should be enough to see it thats the problem.

I think you should sell it..... to me, immediately.
Seriously, take some time and poke around. Try and recreate the sound and isolate what area it's coming from. It could be motor or tranny mounts, suspension, exhaust, drivetrain, cai... A lift would be ideal so the weight of the car would be on the wheels and start yanking on things (carefully). Twist on the driveshaft and see if there's an abnormal amount of play in it also.

Ok well I put the belt spray on it and it seemed to solve the problem. As for the clunking noise I think its getting worse. I can almost feel the noise in the stick if that makes any sense. Its really not getting much louder but its definitely getting more frequent. Going to put it on the lift probably. Monday since it’s my day off. What should I look for besides things being loose?
