New Gears
Will installing a set of 3.73's be too much torque for that 3650 tranny? I heard it's the worst one (tranny) for a mustang, can't handle too much, will it last? I have an Aluminum drive shaft, but I don't think that will make any difference. I know the TKO tranny would be the way to go, but my budget just went south, I crashed my Monte Carlo Dale Earnhardt signature series car and now need to repair it. I know, wrong site for sympathy for a bowtie...
I know, I just found out this is the wrong site, sorry.

3650 is quite strong and should provide a good long service life even with gears and a supercharger much less with just gears. They've been known to be kinda tempermental but I think that was early production line glitchiness and not a statement of actual vs. rated capacity.
I've beaten mine and after the first 3 replacements I've managed to get a good one which has lasted nearly 40K of pure whoopin.

Installing the gears does in no way change the amount of torque applied into the trans. It only multiplies it at a faster rate in the rearend in comparison to the engine's rpm. Your engine will produce the same, really about 1-2% less, amount of overall torque, being able to bring it into play much faster and lower in the rpm band. Someone above suggested installing 4.10:1s, The overall difference in the two is minimal at best so far as rpm -vs-highway driving, if this is a concern for you, only about 1-200rpm in 5th gear. I prefer the higher, lower numbered, gears in the 2v. Try the 4.10:1s, I believe you'll be happiest with those. The stock tr3650 can and has handled over 400ftlbs of torque. This was rated at the flywheel, I would upgrade if you plan to produce this much power but know it's not an issue. Remember to do your maintenance, very important.
P.S.I'm not dfroster (David) just using his computer, so anybody who disagrees with the following statement, take it up with me. In closing, I'd like to commend you guys on a very nice board.
