Talking Engine Decisions

Hello all, great board. I have a 94 Mustang that was a v6 and has since been upgraded to a 77 carbed 351w .30 over, 69 windsor heads, speed demon 650. Its a show car and I'm ready to make it more road friendly. It seems to be over heating at times out of nowhere and after an hour or two of driving the fuel pump starts vapor locking. The motor runs strong, but I have now been getting paranoid everytime I drive this thing that it's going to overheat and I'll wind up on the side of the road. My question is, Should find a tuner to help fix the cooling problem and fuel inject this thing, or get a whole new motor and wiring. I'd like to be able to hop in this thing and drive a whole afternoon. I'd like a reliable combo that is bullit proof with the ability to upHorse power without risking reliabilty and still be show worthy. Can't wait to post pics of my car but my old comp crashed with all my pics. If you have the premier edition of Mustang Enthusiast my car is the "It has what Under the Hood".

it sounds like you may have a bad clynder head gasket... could be the cause of the over heating

a cracked cylinder head is rather unlikely w/ iron heads...

EFI on a 77 351 is kinda pointless IMPO...

if anything get a crate engine...

but try the following first...

1. check cylinger head gaskets
2. check timing
3. change fuel pressure regulator
4. make sure you have the right thermostat in there

I noticed that a lot of crates dont have the fuel injection wiring etc. What are people doing to get these pieces? Does anyone have any best bang for the buck solutions,
Do I buy a used 5.0, 4.6 and take the accessories off?
Anyone have expeirence fitting the 5.4 in a 94-98?
Does anyone no where to get a complete 5.0 crate?

Go to the Modular 4.6 Tech threads and at the top is Anyone interested in a 5.4L swap. That has a lot of good info on the swap. My friend has a 97 that he just put a 5.4 in it was real easy but all he had to do was swap motors because he was able to use his stock wiring harness and computer for the 4.6. He is getting it dyno tuned Friday so you will be able to see what kind of numbers you could possibly get. So check it out.
