Screwed Myself on the X
Ok, so I was installing an o/r Xpipe on my girlfriends 03 Gt and disaster strikes... I rounded off one of the bolts on the passenger side factory H. I can't get it off now for nothing. I tried those special sockets for damaged bolts I got from Sears... no luck. Will an Exhaust garage be able to use a cutting torch or something?? Any advice would be appreciated, Cuz I'm in the doghouse right now with my gal til I get it fixed!!!

If you stripped the bolt you can take a dremmel and cut a slot for a screwdriver.

same thing happened to me but i was able to get it off with a bolt locker kit...you are probably going to have to remove the stud or you could try if you have access to a torch put the socket on the nut and torch it until it locks on the nut then try to lossen it

Damn this sucks ***... no I don't have access to a torch. U think I can cut the nut off with a dremel tool? The fact that I don't have any room to work under there just pisses me off.

I'd do this
Hammer the next smallest size socket on there and try that... you're gonna waste a socket doing it but it works.... the point is to get the socket stuck on there reallly good... I'd even try some adhesive.
not pretty but it's worked many times.

WTF!
NO NO NO... DO THIS-->
Ok... pull off the pipe...
get a propane torch... heat it up real good... get a vise grip and put your back into it...
DO NOT beat it with hammers or start cutting ****...
You may need to go to sears and buy a tap set and re tap the threads

hmm.. ok... i guess its still o n the car...
yeh... cut the bolt and pull out the pipe...
BUT if ya wanna keep that h pipe and be able to use it again... then
heat up the pipe around the bolt...
see if you can get it out...
if not... get some easy outs...
if that dont work...
drill it out carefully and get a tap set

go to sears with one of the bolts you already removed and say...
"Howdy feller! Reckon I need me some easy outs so that I can get one of these sons r bitches out r my exhaust pipe"
They should come with simple instructions... but ask the sales guy...

yes you will need those studs that are in the stock manifolds..i made the mistake of breaking 2 of them off while trying to get the bolts on the pass. side holding stock h on...boy was that a nightmare..let me tell ya those studs arent cheap either..unless you just buy bolts and put them in but i wanted it done right so i bought the studs and for 4 of them i think i paid like 50 bucks...i tried map gas torch and thats not hot enough because these ford manifolds shed heat so well that you need a cutting torch and you need to be careful not to warp the manifold while using it yet get them cherry red then possibly spin the stud out (if you break the stud while getting the bolt off.)

OK, hold on...I think we are all talking a different location here. Are you asking about the studs on the manifold or the studs on the H-pipe?
If theses are the studs on the H-pipe, where the cat back bolts on, then whack them suckers off with the Dremel. If you are talking the studs on the manifold, where the H-pipe bolts to the manifold, then yeah, you got issues. That would then warrant the use of either a bolt off or heat and beat, or smashing a smaller socket on there. DO NOT CUT THE MANIFOLD STUDS until all other means have been tried first.

Ok yeah, I'm talking about the 4 nuts you need to remove that connect the factory H to the Manifold. I got 3 of'm off no prob, but I rounded 1 of the passenger side nuts off just enough that's its giving me all kinds of hell.

are you talking about the one that is way up ther on the pass side clossest to the tire...that one is a pain i dont know how you are doing it but what i ended up doing to get to that one was socket wrench with a real long extension next was a elbow joint then the socket...and the socket o man i took that thing to the bench grinder and had to make it a super short well socket
btw..what did the rest of you guys do to get that bolt off..and does think it is harder to get a o/r x pipe to fit than it is to get a o/r h pipe in ther

OK, yep, now I'm with ya. I used a universal to get the angle right so the socket goes on straight. I didn't have any problem. Maybe it's not rounded off so much that you can still get a socket on there straight. If it is truly "F'd" up, then I would try a "bolt out". It is a neat little socket looking thing that has teeth inside of it that bites into a rounded off nut as you turn it counter clockwise. You can get them at Sears. Good luck!

LOL, this thread is funny! Everyone is no no no, do this, do that! Any how like everyone else has offered, just cut it off with a sawzaw or dremel if you dont' have a torch or anything like that!

Admitting failure and loaning your keys will nt help! Break up with your gilfriend NOW before it gets ugly!! The longer the car is down, the more Satan looks like a better boyfriend. Run, man, RUN!!!

ON the other hand, if you really must keep her, convince her to shell out the $ for a set of shorties, then pull the exhaust as a unit. While she is merily enjoying her new sounding Stang, thrash out the offending bolt, or bury the entire assy swearing that she bought the Stang with headers and an X-pipe. Women are evil keep them happy OR ELSE!!!

Yeah I was using 9/16th's too... that's how I rounded off the damn thing... but OH HAPPY DAY!!!! I FINALLY GOT THAT LITTLE BASTARD OFF!!! No cutting, just hammered on a smaller socket, bit my lip and closed my eyes, and BINGO!! All is good,Girlfriend is lovin' the rumble THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S ADVICE:clap:
