Default I got screwed!

Like you all saw in the other thread I went looking to buy a 2001 Cobra tonight.

Originally their appraisal of my car stated that it was worth between 11 and 14k, mods stripped.

When looking at the car they asked me if it had been in an accident. I said no, becuase it has not. The front fender looked repainted to them. I said it hasnt been in one since I owned the car.

So they ran the CarFax. On 5/22/03 the car was inspected for frame damage at 350 miles! Frame damage was found and reported.

Here's the kicker. I bought it 1/17/04 with 6300 miles. I had a CarFax run at that time. I still have that CarFax in my posession. This frame damage report is not on there.

Power is stating that my car is worth 7k due to the frame damage That *** raping hurts alot.

Anyone ever had this happen before? I've already contacted CarFax and the dealer I purchased the car at, awaiting a reply. What should I do?

Right now I've lost my faith in CarFax. Its a double edged sword IMO.

Time to hit the beer.

Wow that really sucks...I never trust carfax anymore becuase i looked my old car up on it and it had been in like 3 wrecks and only 1 was in the carfax.. I would try to sell it yourself if you can becuase the damage is fully repaired

carfax is goofy. you dont even have to report accidents to them. mine was swiped in the rear quarter panel and it didnt show up on carfax.

Car Fax is not perfect. They can only report what has been reported. The way I look at it is it reduces risk. I fyou run a report and it is clean, it does not mean that it is 100% clean. But, if you run a report and find problems, then you know.

The old dealer will blow you off and will claim that they could not have possibly known. I say they are in the clear as the Car Fax was clean back then. They go by the same information you have.

Perhaps you are insured under car Fax somehow with a guarentee they may have.

It seems like I'm screwed unfortunately, but I'm not giving up hope yet as its only been a few hours.

I'm thinking I may try to contact the original owner of the car... if he disclosed it to the dealership when he traded it in, I could have them.

That blows bro. It's just curious that the accident was reported way after it occured...hmmm make sure the appraisels are trustworthy they could be f'in with you. How can somethin be reported over 10,000 miles later?...Sounds sketchy to me. But to be honest a V6 with that many miles on it being worth anything more then 11 is AMAZING...just makes you wana double check that cobra, if somethin just poped up on your V6 why not somethin on the Cobra...

That blows...thought about selling it by owner first might get more money if you sold it yourself and not trading it to a dealer.

I'd still get less than its worth because of frame damage. I'm not a shister who would sell it like this without informing the buyer.

Right now I'm in for a fight with the original dealership.

i think they have some kind of guarantee where they buy your car back from you for what you originally paid for it?

by the way a buddy of mine traded one of those ghey volvos in for a 06 3-series at the bmw dealership - the guy didnt even run a carfax or anything, just started the car. gave him 7 g's for it and it had like 120k on it and it was pretty fkd up. tires were bald as **** too.

Automatic transmission plus a track at 4000ft density elevation.

Why was I looking to get rid of it? Beacuse I wanted to, and I could afford to.

I'm glad I caught this now, if I had waited to do anything with the car until its paid off in 3 years, I'd be past the statute of limitations.

Update:

Had the car inspected... There is no frame damage. Working with carfax to get the report removed, and keeping the car for now. It was in an accident, but there's not much I can do about it as it wasn't a huge one.

Making some changes though, getting her a little more daily driver friendly and trying to pay off my credit card so I'm selling some of the mods..

Eh, I still want a new car, and that was an easy way into one. I've been happier with the GT since taking the deep dish's off... so I'm gonna keep it at least until I graduate.

man, you guys are as dumb as you look

I took 35lbs off the rear end of my car in rotational mass. Granted yes, it doesnt look as good, but now I'm really feeling that 4.10 "boost" that so many talk about. I like it better this way. I guess I'm growing out of my looks > performance phase.

Yeah... the automatic was sucking plenty of power out and the DD's were taking what was left...

Going to a dyno day on sat, we'll see how much difference removing them made!

man, that's what was scaring me away from getting DD's.. but I think I'm going to keep my other DR's on regular bullitts and use them at the track, so it shouldn't be a problem. You still have those DD's.. for sale maybe ???
