Tranny/Rear End Capabilities on Mach 1
Just wondering for later on down the road if I get a supercharger, how much power can the stock tranny and rear end handle? I will probably be sticking to stock tires...
Also how much boost/power from supercharger, or what shot of nitrous could I safely put in it? I like nitrous cause it's cheap but I tend to think of it as cheating. :loser:

tranny is rated to like 350-360tq. It'll handle 400 easy but you don't want to try and destroy it by abusing it.
The rear end will handle about the same stock but I'd upgrade to 31 spline axles and at least an auburn or eaton posi. Torsen are very nice as well. I'm partial to detroit lockers but most people don't like the ratcheting noise they make in turns. If you're going to blow past 500hp, I'd look at a 9" or a serious build up of your 8.8.
boosting a mach1 engine is asking for trouble unless you put forged pistons and rods in it. One bad tank of gas is all that stands between you and a blown motor. You will develop gobs of power with a blower though. Try to stay around 6lbs or so and get a good safe dyno tune.
Nitrous... safe... eh. It can be but stuff happens. On the stock rods and pistons don't go over 100-125shot or you're asking for trouble.
Nitrous isn't cheating, it's exactly the same as boost, more oxygen added directly to the combustion chamber to you can put more gas in and get more power out... what's cheating about that. Not telling your opponent you have nitrous is sometimes cheating. Usually though it's run what ya' brung and hope you brung enough.
Now to all the hippies that are gunna whine at me, yes you can run more boost and you can run more nitrous but I think this dude wants to drive it all the time and have fun in it like a mustang should be driven. I don' think going max performance is a good idea if he wants to get it home every time. If you don't mind a blown motor now and again, run 14psi and a 100 shot.. that should be interesting... once.

for max fun, drop a dry 75 shot in it and have fun. You won't have to worry about any fuel vapor in your intake popping (nitrous backfire) and a 75 shot is pretty violent when it hits so it'll definitely get your attention. Blowers are great but they're always on. Sometimes you just don't need or want the extra power. With nitrous you can at least shut it off when you don't need it.
As with any power adder, a good tune will keep you out of danger.
Don't hit it before 3000rpms, and don't hit it in 1st gear. Other than that, 75 is good for a drag run or just passing if you're so inclined.
Blowers are also very expensive and hard to install for the beginner. Nitrous kits, especially dry kits are cake to install.
Good luck.
