Default Check gas cap light

My check gas cap light came on on monday. I checked it, it was on all the way but i took it off and put back on again just to make sure. Wednesday I call the dealership because the light is still on. They say to give it a couple days then come in. Its Saturday an now my service engine soon light just turned on. I'm not a moron, my gas cap is firmly on. Im buying a new one tomorrow but if that doesnt fix the problem what else could be the cause?? I have a K&N and dual exhaust for mods and its an 04 so this shouldnt be happening so early in the cars life. ????

not long after I got my car that damn check gas cap light would randomly come on and be off again the next day. it only did it when it rained. ford checked it out and didn't see a problem and then it didn't happen again

The fuel system is pressurized, so if there is a leak with the gas cap, it does need to be looked at. You cant just go out and buy any random gas cap. Each has a specific pressure rating. I would take it into your dealer and make sure that your cap itself isnt malfuntioning.

It is a serious thing. Its not something you can just brush off.
