I have a 2003 mustang GT, and received my motive 4.10 gears today. I have 29,000 miles on my car. I purchased the install kit, but not the bearings. Should I get the bearings, or will I be safe with the install kit? a shop that I called said that he recommends the bearings for cars over 20,000 miles. Isn't it for cars that have over 60k?

 

yea..u should be fine....im going to get the master bearing kit just cause my transmission is really corky cause of my extremely bad synchros (they went at 14,000mi).....going to get all of my synchros replaced...then take it to my buddies neighbors shop to get my rear end worked on....should be fun

 

I thought the deal was 40,000 miles on these things. I would say you should be fine, maybe border line. Mustang rears are really tough, so I wonder if the shop quoted you a general number for all cars.

 

Well, I heard about this shop, but have not had any work done from them. They quoted me 350.00 which was 50.00 more than the other local shop which I had some work done. Then, he wanted to charge me 100.00 for the bearings!

 

I went to ACDelco and pieced together the bearings needed guy gave me a great deal for $20 then took them to the shop

-THats all four bearings needed not just the 2 as some people have asked.

I came across that idea because I wasnt going to pay $100 for a masterbearing kit. I'll just buy the basic kit and make my own master kit. Ended up paying $50 after getting a $30 Raetech basic kit

 

Yeah, can't beat that. I will try to do some searching for a better deal than 100.00. I was looking at the ac delco website, but didn't find anything. I'll have to keep searching...

 

wherever you get the gears installed at they should have pinion bearings for 20 bucks.

 

always do new bearings, races and seals, we see too many cars and trucks in here at the dealership wth 25k to 30k on them and the carrier races are shot. dont skimp on things like bolts, bearings, races and seals. they are cheap enought, in relation to having a gear install done a second time.

 

You are exactly right. It will be cheaper to get it done the right way, the first time. I will be using new bearings.
