I might be getting laid off
I have been working at the Dearborn Stamping Plant for 12 years and i have never been laid off. Now because of drastic cut backs and cost saving measures i might be laid off for 4 months. I have been very optimistic and havent paid attention to the rumors because when you work in the plant thats all you hear(rumors). I know to some of you, you are saying 4 months aint nothing at least you are getting unemployment. A layoff with my senoirity date is a prelude to a terminal one.
I plan on making a couple of more MT purchases but that will be it until i find out how my future is going to be looking with Ford Motor Co.
Just had to vent.

I know your feelings bro. the plant I work at is major supplier for the big 3. Ford is our biggest customer. So when you guys have any trouble like that it trickles down to us suppliers. we already took a major workforce cut. Then they bring in temp agencies to cover for line workers. The temps only make 6 to 6.25 an hour so you can imagine what kind of work you get out of them. Hope things get straight or your sake and mine. GL

Good luck bro. At least there is a possibility of them bringing you back. I'd definatly start seeking employment elsewhere though.
In the telecom world, a layoff is always a terminal one, once they start hiring again, they refuse to hire any of the layoffs.

Dude that sucks. The automotive industry in a real world of hurt and they have no one to blame but themselves. If you ask me, the company excutives all need to get fired because they have really let down their employees.
Ford has been plummeting. Falling behind Toyota this year and now Toyota will jump ahead of a near bankrupt GM in 2006 making them the #1 car producer in the world.
It is had to make money on a car when they are selling for 20% off list and the manufactures have to pay $2000 per car just to cover retiree benefits. Toyota on the other hand, does not have this problem.
I wish you the best. It is best for all of us if you can stay employed because it means that everything is healthier.

That sucks...My uncle works for GM and idk if you guys have heard their shutting like 8 plants down and layoffs out the *** and hes been layed off for like 2 months now...Its horrible, but i hope everything goes well for you

The biggest problem i have with layoffs?
The average high level manager makes 6 figures and some very impressive bonuses. The highballer execs make migh 6'figures and into the millions. Thier bonuses are freakin outrageous.
Ive never understood the justification of it and how these people can sleep at night.
Option 1.
Lose the corperate bonus. As if 900,000 a year isnt enough. Save millions of dollars by suspending corperate bonuses for 1 year. I mean really, how many houses in Aspen or Vail do we need?
Option 2,
Lay off 100 workers, let them go unemployed, possible default on thier morgage, lose thier vehicals, go bankrupt, force them to move into a crap neighborhood where little joey will learn how to rob liquerstores and rape little girls while innocent little suzie will end up spending her 16th birthday blowing addicts at the local truckstop hoping to score a bag of meth.... and KEEP the executive bonuses!

I have no problem with someone making a good buck. Fact is, there needs to be something to shoot for in life. That is what makes America great. Also, people for the most part are victims of their own decisions. If a guy decides to bust his **** in HS, sweat it out in college, save for his future, takes risks, and help his company succeed, he deserves to get paid.
The thing is though, high level managers should be more loyal to their employees who count on them rather then just trying to make the stockholders rich. That is the #1 problem with big business. The way teh system works, a CEO cares more about the stock price then being responsible for a worker and his family. That is wrong!
My solution? Make employees highly vested in the companies they work for. Companies need to be employee owned. That way all of these problems are prevented. This prevents short-term thinking and when you are forced to make drastic lay-offs to raise the stock price, the employees who are let go, reep the rewards.
