Default new owner with a simle question

hey guys,
my name is Gedde and I'm a new owner of a 98 Cobra,
I'm finally glad to find a community of mustang drivers who can help shed light on a few questions.

1. the cobra is definatly loud with the stock exaust but what kind of aftermarket would yall reccommend? x-pipes-cats-short pipes? or some kind of cat-back?

2.what kind of synthetic oil is recommended? royal purple? havoline? etc.

any answers would really help.

`preciate it
Gedfar

If the stock exhaust is loud to you and you dont want it louder, I wouldn't recommend any aftermarket exhaust.

Oil is up to you, just use the right weight. Royal Purple is very highly regarded as one of the best.

start out with a catback first. look at Mac or Flowmaster. Go talk with Modular Powerhouse or join modularpowerhouse.com. You're from Marietta Ga, so they must be just down the street from you.

Depending on the amount of cash you have, Redline is the best oil, 2nd to none, in my opinion but also costs like $7-8/qt. For the best deals on it, synlubes.com. Otherwise, if you're poor like me, Mobil 1 is also pretty good.

Welcome and congrats on the Cobra!
As for exhaust- SLP Loudmouth 1. It's a loud step up because it takes away you mufflers to give you the deep at throaty sound. The best part is, if its too lound you can by the SLP bullits (sorta mufflers) to quite it down. SLP 1 is about $400.00 new and SLP 2 (bullits) is about $475.00 give or take.
I use SLP 1 with a BBK catted X pipe, love the sound.

As for oil- It depends on how you drive your car. If you ride it rough you can use Royal Purple every 3,000 miles but speculation is still out on if it's worth $7.00/q. I would simply go will Mobil 1 every 3,000- 3,500 miles depending on your driving (the harder you drive= the more often oil should be chaged).
As for the transmission and differential oil- I use Royal Purple. You dont change these but every 30,000 or so miles so the extra $$$ isn't so bad.

Hope this helps.

You also dont need to be changing your oil every 3k miles either its a waste of money.

It all depends on your driving habbits. If you dont drive like a bat outa hell you can go longer with oil change intervals. As long as there's the correct amount of oil in the engine and you've driven reasonably, than yes, changing oil every 3,000 miles is a waste. But i would never go beyond 4,000 miles with out chaging oil, (had a very bad experience once) thats just me though.

There is no reason to change your oil at 3k its a waste of money oils of today are far more capible of higher miles between changes. Thats just an old money scamming thing of the past its not needed. There is reason most new cars have 5,7, and alot of exotics that use high end oil like Mobil 1 and other brands can go 10k-15k between changes. Changing it ever 3k is tossing money out the window. Even spraying my car i go 5-7k on changes and the oil is still good for more.
