Default My GT vs. G35 Coupe

hey, i know we're all against street racing but when a perfect opportunity arises i usually sucker into it. i was on the 684 which for most of you who dont know it is a 10 mile straight away in a field with big walls on the sides so cops cant fit on the sides of the roads, speed limit is 65. i was cruising at 70 in 5th gear when a hooked up infiniti g35 coupe pulls up next to me. real cool guy, he made it clear to launch after the 3rd beep of the horn. as soon as he beeped for the 3rd time i dropped it into 3rd gear and took off. we ran literally along side of each other THE WHOLE RACE. we got up to 135 and leveled there for a while. my mustang didnt wanna break 135 for some reason and neither did his g35 nd noone was pulling ahead after a while so we slowed back down again. we got off the same exit and he actually followed me into a parking lot to talk about the cars.

His Car (V6) :
New Exhaust, intake, all bolt-ons and some new rims - he said around 290 to 300hp cause it was 280 stock

My Car (V8) :
too many mods to list, id say just as much horsepower and some more torque packed into a beastly v8

why didnt i pull ahead of him and why didnt my car wanna break 135?!

you should have beaten him. I have raced a few modded ones of those cars and the 350z's. i only lost 1 of them who had full bolt ons and a 75 shot and rana 12.9 to my 13.7

i really dont know what was wrong, i was shifting very well and the car was handling like a champ but for some reason i hit like a 135mph barrier and couldn't break it. really really agrivating because of all the work and money i put into the car.

I cant explain the 135 limit? Ive gotten off it by 125mph but I did race one of those cars and sad to say he was pulling on me :disgust: them cars are bad *** on the HWY!! I had all the bolt-ons in my sig. BUT I didnt use the spray! I rarely ever do on the street?

i wonder if its an actual speed limiter that can be fixed by a new chip or a tuner or something, doesnt anyone else know anything about this? ford claims top speed of 150 stock lol......i want atleast 140

Here are my thoughts:

I had one of these on my *** one time. I pulled onto a ramp and he was behind me. I floored it and he stuck right with me. I gained a few feet on him, but it could have been because he did not want to be right on my bumper. I had another chance to pull again a few miles later. This time I hit the spray. traffic had slowed and I nailed it for a few seconds from about 45 mph and let off at 70 or so. I shocked the crap out of him. He heard too much of my exhaust and was now starting to wonder what i had under the hood and simply went around and waved. Older guy too!

GT's and G35's are pretty evenly matched. A GT with gears will launch much better, but hp is hp any way you look at once you are rolling.

Here are some ideas about your car and your mods:

Your rims are definately hurting you and your exhaust may be a problem. I honestly think that SLP loudmouth with a cattless mid pipe is not a good idea. I have spoken to SLP technicians and they don't recomend doing this with an n/a application. Sure, they might be pulling the emissions politically correct thing, but they said that there is not enough back pressure with a setup like this.

18 inch rims have higher rotational mass and absorb more hp to get and keep going. They certainly are not helping.

i see, i knew i was gonna take a hit with the 18" rims but i figured it was worth it cause they look so damn good i didnt think it would shed a good 5-10mph off my top speed. also, the ehaust is mainly for the sound, i could set off car alarms with the car which i like. if i get some xtra money i wanted to put a magnaflow in there and sell the straight pipes. any cheap mods out there to push up my top speed? im getting into high speed races more and more now at a nearby raceway and i wanna boost up the beast up in the higher speeds. thanx

I would get a tuner. No matter what I did, I couldn't get my car above 135 before I put the tuner on it. I'm pretty sure that the stock computer has a top speed limiter on it.

like i said in my original post there is a nearby highway (the 684) where it goes straight on brand new blacktop surface for a good 10-20 miles with huge 20 foot high walls on both sides so there is absolutely no side lane or emergency lane for a cop to hide in. the road is ALWAYS dead empty and sometimes there are a couple cars but they stay in the right lane. i go there a few times a week just to open the stallion up but still cant break 135. maybe its some speed limiter which is why im curious to see how fast you got your stang up to after putting in the tuner. please let me know, thanx

A chip will definitely help. I've taken my Mustang up to 140 in a pretty short distance with no problem, but it didn't want to go much more than that. With the chip, the car is so much faster and I know I could top 150 no problem. Once I get the chance I'll test it and let you know. I did have the speedlimiter put to the max as well which might as well just be removed because it is something like 255 mph.

There's a really long (20+ miles) 4 lane divided straightaway not to far from where I live, and me and a friend were playing on it one day since there was no traffic in sight. He tried to outrun me, and I was not about to let that happen, so I kicked it in. I didn't use the spray, but I honestly don't know how fast I was going b/c my speedometer doesn't go that high. But at those speeds, the little lines in the middle of the road look solid.

What was the Altitude where you were racing??? I've gotten mine up to 145, but was at sea-level. I've played with a few 350z's (just about the same car) and always beat them(except one with a TT kit)

Guys, not to be a butthead, but this thread is for Drag Racing discussions.

I never intended this forum to "Have Big Brother" watching you and we technically do not have rules that prohibit street racing discussions, but we do have rules that prohibit discussions of illegal activities. Please try to excercise some discretion in your conversations.

I am not saying that you have gone too far, just be careful.

Thanks

Even though blake IS a butthead, he is right. You know both the legal side and the mistake side of the consequences.
