Exclamation Need Help

I have a 88 5.0 and I have checked everything that I can think of, but my car still runs rich and under hard throttle it spits and sputters. When I bought new plugs the parts store told me that they needed to be gapped at .54, but the book says .44, which one is it?I have set the timing at 10 BTDC, is that right? The last thing is the idle will not turn down even if I back the screw all the way out, any ideas? Any help would be great
Thanks Adam

if its idling high that could be an vaccumn leak someplace like a broken hose or bad intake gasket or TB gasket etc..

as for running like ****, i would gap them at what the book says, and first things first can you get a fuel pressure test guage and tell us the fuel pressure, i am thinking it could be fuel related, so i would start there.

that doesnt mean you have good fuel pressure. thats just a regulator.
you need to go to autozone, advanced autoparts etc.. and rent a fuel pressure test guage and see what its running at idle and WOT. do that and come bock and tell us what you got.

check your throttle position sensor , check the full sweep of it, closed to open throttle, look for flat spots , or dead spots with no voltage.
