Default How much would you pay...

For a 302 Long block out of a '67 mustang. The owner of the '67 bought a boss 302 crate engine and has the old 302 sitting on an engine stand in his garage. I don't know a whole lot about 302s, especially used ones. As for the reason why I'm interested, I talked with my mechanic and we're going to start working on my '78 mustang II and I want to install a 302 in it. He trying to talk my into a 347 stroker which is very tempting, but I'd really like to do this with the least amount of $$ as possible. I was looking into getting a new 302 short block and building it up, but if I can get this other long block and have it remachined and balanced for less, I'd really like to go for that.

So far, our tenative plans are to install an IRS system for the rear off of a late model cobra, front coil-over conversion, 5-lug conversion and rebuild the C4 tranny with a 2600ish converter.

Lol, you may be asking, why Joe why, thats the ugliest mustang evah? Well, its paid for and I can. Also, I personally like the little sucker and I like the idea of having an ugly lil street burner.

its a non roller block. its old and in rather unknown condition. so not much. when you can pick up a ragged out 5.0 short block and bore it over. or pick up an explorer motor that you know wasnt too abused and never had a missed shift.

Thanks, I kinda came to the same conclusion last night after about 10 mins of google searches, I found alot of rebuilt 302 long blocks for like 1000-2000 dollars. I don't think my friends long block is worth more than maybe 200.

It really only worth much to someone wanting a block with those date codes. If you wanted to restore a 67' whatever.
