Hey guys-
Ok so I've been researching the tuner thing....your opinions, and to educate me a bit more: I also see the "chips" that come with 1 tune on them...my question is....having a V6 Auto tranny...
Thanks!! SRQ

you will gain around 7-10 (give or take a few) from a tune. I would recommend getting a SCT tuner from Justin @ www.vmptuning.com . Thats who I have my tunes from which you get 3 custom tunes.

tuner is you best option, for all the reasons stated, like puling codes and stuff. you can have multiple tunes on a chip, and have a switch installed that can allow you to change it, but if you can use a hand held tuner, why have the chip??
you can get multiple tunes, depending on how you drive. if i were you, i'd get an economy tune that runs on regular gas, and might as well get a 93 tune for when you want to run premium.

agreed. i'd go w/the tuner if i were u. i went w/the chip for a while. it was great, but then i just bought the tuner recently.
butttt if you decide to go w/the chip, i have a chip for the 99-04's w/the coin bevel switch that i'm kinda lookin' to get rid of.

I have an Xcal II, and I am not so sure I like it. The shifting is the biggest thing you will notice. Other than that, if you haven't done much else to your engine, you won't notice power gains. The tuner does allow a small amount of room to adjust things on your own, but if you really want to change something, you are going to need a new tune installed. It is nice for codes, although I am pretty sure any auto parts store will read those for you anyway. My advice: gears if you haven't already, J-mod & tranny cooler (the correct way to improve tranny performance), and suspension modifications. Of course, I suppose the tuner would also allow you to adjust your speedo with the gears. But if you are wanting it solely for the purpose of improving your drive, I wouldn't.

The 3 tunes come in handy IMO. You can do it for all sets for example if you don't have any power adders you can make different octane tunes. Mine are all around I have a: 93 Performance, 87 Performance, 87 Gas Mileage. As well if you need a new tune your tuner can send you a new one over the internet and you can upload it to the SCT

Tuners = versatility
I use a chip with multiple custom tunes (dyno tune). It really depends on the person and the application.
