Ok got a tuff one for you all, or at least for me.
I just got my first car/mustang 03 Stock V6. Ive got the mach audio system in it however it doesnt say which one. However based on the style of the 2 faceplates I have gathered it must be a 460. Its a 6 Disc CD changer. Now this is what is confusing me, I have read in other places that this audio system does not play MP3s however I just burned a MP3 CD and it played just fine. So whats the deal here? I have a total of 6 speakers (2 what I presume to be tweeters in the top right/left corners of the car next to the windshields), (2 Larger speakers on the bottom left/right of the passenger/driver side doors), and (2 speakers on the back dash). Is this standard for a 460 system or no? |

Yup thats the standard Mach 460. The only difference between the 460 and the 1000 is that the Mach 1000 has 2 10 inch subs in the trunk along with a rack of 4 small amps.

hmmm you know I havent even opened the trunk yet =\ wtf kinda mustang owner am I? lol. Ill do it tommrow when its light out. Even though I dont expect to find that.
But honestly the system thats in it now is loud enough for me for now. I am sorta a sound perfectionist when it comes to playing music with stuff I own though, so im sure it wont be long. Although I dont care for that, "im a fucking rap listening all about the bass retard" type. What I mean is people who put in 12" subs just for extreamly stupidly loud bass, but thats just my taste ...... I rather hear the lyrics too I guess =P To each his own. |

You purchased a car without even looking in the trunk???

i hate it when some asshat goes out and gets the 15inch kickers and powers them with a 1000 watt sony xplode amp, cranks the gain all the way up, and thinks that the bottoming out and clipping are desirable traits. give me a single 10 with an amp that can constantly put out 400 watts without the slightest hint of clipping and im good. |

yea you know that rattling you heard, could be a body back there better open the trunk...
Moving on, I've been told that the 460 is a unique system in that it's not really compatible with other systems unless there is some major rewiring and what-not. I am not too familiar with the Mach 1000 but if its made by the same guys who make the 460 it should be a relatively straight-forward upgrade. I too have been told about the mp3 thing but they work just fine in my 460 6-cd changer. |

Doing a 460 swap to 1000 isn't worth it.
You would be better off buying a good 10,12" sub and an amp to power it.

Back in the '90s the Mach 460 system was the premium shiz nit that was offered in stangs. I dont know exactly when the 1000 came out but it is a good step up. Both are damn good systems for the average music lover. Yes the 460 can play your music that ya burn onto a disc (not exactly MP3 there). With the 1000 you can take all 2 to 300 songs off your comp burn em to a disc in MP3 format and use 1 disc in your changer and all ya got to do is use your face plate controlls to fumble through your music folders/albums.
As far as sapping out to a 1000.... I dont think its worth it either... there is too much work for minimal gains really. You would be better off by going after market stuff.

@ SilverBullet, yeah I agree it sounds good enough for me. Its so loud that I dont bother putting it up past the 3rd bar.
Oh also let me clearify, when I burned the songs onto the Disc the format the songs are in, are MP3 format. (this is more directed at SilverBullet still). So unless I am missing somthing the 460 6 Disc changer does support MP3 formats. Or at least in my 2003 model stang it does ..... which is just a stock V6 stang. I am wondering if some later model 2003 and above where equiped with an upgraded 460 6 disc changer. Anywho all in all I am happy for now but I was just curious, and I appreciate all your guys input. Thanks. |
