Exclamation Sound

Hey guys

I am fairly new to Mustangs. I bought a stock 2001 Mustang with 42k miles 6 months ago and have made it a power house. I put true Dual Flowmasters 40 series (X pipe)

Steeda Cold Air, drive shaft, headers, gears, injectors, distributor, alternators, high torque starter

Zex spark plugs, Zex NOS and purge system

Stalker 2 body kit, Dual vented hood

Here is the entire problem, i put all of this on my Stang and a GT that pulls up besides me that is basically all stock or might just have a MAC or Flowmaster exhaust is still louder then my car and that makes me mad. I want to have a loud sound. I was thinking about three different things

1. Take off my Cat.
2. Buy a hollowed out Cat
3. Dump down my exhaust and still keep the pipes for show.

Only thing is I have to leave the county to pass emessions and/or if i get caught it is a $5k ticket for taking my cat off.... Any suggestions to get my stang louder?

You have a V6. A V8 is always going to be louder than you because it has 2 more cylinders on you and a larger displacement. An off road X/H pipe will make it significantly louder. Its up to you to take your cats off.

Exclamation But...

Floppy i am talking about Catalytic...if i remove it won't my gas milage go to hell? I heard that removing them can decrease one's gas milage drastically and someone else told me that by removing it it would stop restricting air flow and gas milage should stay the same or even get better, but one would smell the gas more.

I know it has 2 more cyl. but cyl. dont make the sound ( i know what your talking about) for some imports are louder then mine and they are 4 cyl. I Just need to know what to do to increase. Would dumping the pipes down by the cab greatly increase the sound?

you could run no mufflers and that would make it louder and even more awsome sounding.

Getting rid of your cats will make it louder, it will smell like exhuast more. It will help it flow more but with your mods it wont do much.

PS-we dont have distributors on the v6 models.

thats because they are all muffler. if you put a rice muffler on ur car it would be so loud but it sounds like an asian car and u have american muscle . those mufflers are just over compensation for a small engine

I read this, but then you talk about gutting your cats. Do you have a catted xpipe? Or do you even have an xpipe? You need an off road X (no cats) if you want to be loud. And long tube headers are probably going to give you the best sounding deep tone on a v6.

Tru dat y0.

The exhausts on the majority of the import ricers out there are completely useless as far as performance goes, and the sound they make is terrible...doens't even sound like a car.

V6's will never sound like V8s, if you get off road cats it will sound louder, but also sound raspier, some people say that V6's sound cleaner with the cats on, though..but a cam, and long tubes will make it sound more aggressive, cams are expensive though..

How exactly is your V6 a powerhouse? lol
