Default What do the numbers mean??

Ok so 18 years old and i am yet to know what the numbers mean when buying tires. i understand the R17 or R15 but somone please explain the rest to me!!! also if you could help me out and make some tire suggestions, i just bought weld draglites for my 89 foxbody and i have 15x9 rear and 15x7 fronts. i would also like white raised letters on them (i'm not sure if most tires come with raised letters or not) and i would also like them to give me awesome traction when dry (i rarely drive in rain... its my baby ha) so i don't have to worry about wet traction, but i'd rather not buy ET street radials or anything like that. help me out please!!!:loser:

245/45/17

245 is width of tire.
45 is sidewall height of tire.
17 is rim size the tire will fit.

i thought one of the numbers had something to do with hardness or something of that nature?

245 is the cross section width of the tire in millimeters.

45 is the aspect ratio of the sidewall. In English, that means that the height of the sidewall is 45% of the width of the cross section.
