ViS CF Hood Delivered UPDATE: pins installed!!!!!!!

2 Attachment(s)
Got my hood Delivered today. I'm going to install it or atleast TRY to install it onto the car Friday when I have time. I will show more pics of it INSTALLED. But for now here it is. Its the ViS Carbon Fiber 3" Cowl hood for my 02 GT

ViS did an excellent job boxing it up with 2 layers of cardboard with bubble wrap in between them. took me a while to open her up

looks kewl in person..

After looking at the Hood Latch "hole" its all just a plastic type bottom side, so I will DEFINETLY need to have hood pins!

edit: i have posted a pic of my hoodpins installed on the 2nd page of this thread...

ahh shit that was some bullshit, about 3 years ago......

i had that mach1 CF hood, the first one i got had some very small hairline fractures in the very front, i thought they were just scratches untill i installed the hood and let it drop shut the first time and crack!

now, before i installed the CF hood, i sold the stock hood. whoops. lol

i got ahold of the seller, they agreed to replace it, i just had to destroy the first hood and take pics of it fuckked up and in at least 2 pieces. So we beat the shit out of it with torches, hammers, even ran over it with a hemi.

they sent the new replacement hood, the fucking delivery guy was all banging it around when he brought it out, i cut the box away immediatly and sure enough one corner was all fucked up and spider webbed out.

it went back to the seller, they diddnt have any more mach 1 hoods and couldnt get anymore in stock. So i searched for weeks to find another one and finally did. they stopped making those quite a while ago and they are VERY VERY hard to find.

that one arrived and it was finally ok, but i went about a month with no hood on my mustang.

lol

Jack was a ricer for a couple months lol..

On a side note, please tell me you're getting it painted...I HATE bare CF hoods. Looking fucking stupid on a mustang.

Nothing Ricer about a CF hood. Mine looked awesome on the GT and never had it painted.

It all depends on the color of the car.

I remember when anyone who put 20's on a Mustang was called a Ricer no matter what year it was.

Lances03SVT 08-05-2010 03:04 AM

Jack had trouble because it wasn't a VIS :)

3.8LMustang 08-05-2010 06:22 AM

Nice CF Hood :)

Just because you hate it, doesn't mean other people do. Like Venom said, depends on the color, but it's all opinion anyways. I don't see the point of wasting all that money on a CF hood, just to turn around and spend another $300-400 to get it painted.

WNRacing 08-05-2010 09:00 AM

I'm right there with 08mgt.. I can't stand bare CF on any color, doesn't matter what it is. Now if the cowl was CF and the rest of it was black to match the car, that could be pretty cool.

Nice looking hood though man!

99MustangGT 08-05-2010 09:03 AM

IMO black is the only color that can pull off a cf hood on a mustang.

NoKturnaL 08-05-2010 10:11 AM

if my mustang was any other color other than black or mineral grey, I would not have even think to put CF hood on it. But I have seen mustangs that are BLACK or GREY with the CF hood and it does looks good IMO. I do think that CF hood on like a red or blue or yellow stang is UGLY as hell so I can agree to a point.

Also If I PLANNED on painting a CF hood I would have just got a fiberglass hood.

The whole reason I got the CF hood is because I was quoted some RIDICULOUS PREP/PAINTING costs from most of the body shops in my area and didnt want to spend the Large extra dollar amount for that.

I saw that the CF hood was the "cheapest" way to look better/DIFFERNT IMO than the rest of the mustang around here..lol

Exactly.

The guy with the Vortech 05-09 GT on here did that, where the middle was CF and the rest was Vista Blue.

I just don't think CF flows on a mustang that has absolutely no other CF parts on the exterior.

Now if it had a CF splitter in the front with a CF hood it'd make more sense.

I didn't say that he had to paint it either, so everyone quit getting your panties in a wad. I just stated my opinion. Plus, a painted CF hood means you don't have to worry about it fading/changing colors.

Do what you will, I was just saying I think it looks out of place, even on a black car.

NoKturnaL 08-05-2010 05:57 PM

My CF hood will give me 10 more horsepower so...:blah:

Stang Kang 08-05-2010 06:41 PM

My NOS sticker gives me 30 more horse power so...

Yup, I sucked it up and paid to have my hood painted. Sure did cost a ton of money in the end but the end result made it worth the cost.

Hope you like the way it looks at different angles in the sunlight...Hope you have a decent clear coat on it.

Lol. Only 10? I thought those things were worth like 40whp?

You got ripped of man...

NoKturnaL 08-07-2010 09:38 PM

When drilling the holes into my hood for the 2 pins, is their any special type of drill bit I should be using for the carbon fiber hood?? I should be able just to use a standard drill bit correct? Does the hood run into any risk of cracking while the hole is being drilled?

If anyone has ever had a carbon fiber hood and installed hoods pins gimmie some pointers...

stanley423 08-08-2010 02:31 PM

nice hood man hope you enjoy it and hope it doesn't fade

Tape 08-08-2010 08:26 PM

NoKturnaL, can you give a link, I've been thinking about buying a CF hood.
also what was the price shipped to the door?

csledd 08-08-2010 08:46 PM

I'm not a fan of CF, but I like the cowl for sure :)

Definitely use hood pins fosho

I took mine to a shop and had it done. For as much as the hood cost I wouldn't chance messing it up.

I put the hood on the other day and made the NeEded adjustment to the hood Latch receiver (Raised it up). Here are some pics. I still need to install the FRPP hood pins I have tghough. I am happy with how it looks..

WNRacing 08-09-2010 07:17 AM

DO NOT drive the car until you put hood pins on!!!!! Aftermarket hood = Hood pins, NOW!!!!

Don't want to see your windshield smashed and a nice big crease in your roof.

I wouldn't drive it, period. It doesn't take much of anything to lift an aftermarket hood or even a stock hood, just ask Bubba.

I'm still going with my hood and no aftermarket hood pins. I have the pins just never installed them.

One day a few years ago I was on the autobahn after I filled up and the hood was lightly bouncing up and down on the safety latch. I think I was cruising around 80-90 miles per hour. You think that it would be a violent bounce/vibration but it wasnt and I was surprised by this. I was still pissed because I thought my hood was falling apart on me. Then I remembered that I was going to check my oil and belt at the gas station before I got on the Bahn but never looked under my hood because I got distracted by a phone call.

Lucky, I was. I have also been at speeds in excess of 170 MPH without catastrophic failure. I still have all intentions of installing my hood pins just didnt have the time nor proper equipment to get the job done.

Cervini's makes a mean latch because I put it through the ringer.

Install hood pins because its all a matter of time.

Edit: For those that dont know I have a Cervini Y2K Cobra R hood.

The thing that concerns me with this ViS CF hood is that the Latch hole area is basically PLASTIC. Actually the whole underbody skeleton of the hood seems to be a plastic material. So At high speeds I can fear that the hood latch would eventually "tear" through the "plastic". So Hood pins I do plan on installing ASAP as that added "hold"

99MustangGT 08-09-2010 12:09 PM

Looks good man, get in those hood pins.

01FR500 08-09-2010 05:45 PM

I STRONGLY suggest installing hood pins before you drive more. The only reason I went so long without putting pins on mine is because the latch area was steel. The hood has some good lift on it while driving at anything above 25mph. These CF hoods are light and an be lifted off the hood prop with a strong breeze.

My hood is all fiberglass. The hood latch area is a metal plate bonded and glassed into the hood. It's very rigid but will give away eventually.

NoKturnaL 08-11-2010 07:27 PM

Welp... I have some of my hood pin installation complete. I will take the time to post pics when im done..

I didnt get to finish cause I had other stuff to do today and ran outa time.

Drilling through the CF hood is fun..

Almost done, at least you're taking time to do a good job. By the way the hood is immaculate.

venom 08-15-2010 04:13 AM

I think your hood looks great CF. I would however try and keep it away from the sun as much as possible and keep it waxed.

I have had my hood open on me two times while driving on the expressway going 65. Both times the safety latch did not allow the hood to fully open. I think the only time a hood can fully open is if you installed the latch wrong, failure of the latch or failure of the hood. In your case I would be concerned about failure of the hood since it does not have a metal plate. Also make sure that your hood latch has tons of grease.

Thanks Venom.

Yea I KNOW that if I didnt install the FRPP Hood Pins and only used the OEM latch, my hood would fly open eventually. The metal latch would rip through the frikkin plastic hood latch area. But tomorrow I am finishing the install of my FRPP hood pins and those should give me the added peice of mind I guess. I have not driven the car for over a week because I havent had the time to finish up my pin install..

What wax should I use to help protect the hood from fading? Does any type of wax work ...? like Canuba wax or suttin?
