Component "Off Switch"

Component "Off Switch"
Hey guys I am finally getting around to ordering some speakers for my car since I had one explode on me a month or 2 back. I was wanting to know. These are the speakers that im looking at getting.

These as you can tell are component 2 ways and I have read reviews about the highs sounding umm....... too high or "bright".
I am not wanting to change too much of the sound over the stock quallity. I just MAINLY want to get rid of the busted *** speaker without putting another crappy speaker that will blow again. So can that "high hat" be turned off or disconected? I have always been happy with the stock audio in the car and would be happy to have the system equal to that again. Though I HAVE been toying with the idea of adding a couple 10' subs in the trunk. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Don't get ripped off buying from crooksfield .... they have good information and selection but, always shop around.

same speaker lots cheaper although I'd search around that site to see if you can find anything you like better. I just installed a set of Hifonics component speakers in my girlfriends car $69 that sound better than the kicker components in mine that I paid almost 3 times as much for.

yeah i dont recommend buying form crutchfield, check out sonicelectronix and hi-fi-soundconnection and other discount wholesale places, but i like good clean sounding music so i enjoy my infinity set up 4 components with a single 10 inch infinity kappa perfect sub in the trunk sounds great also have a jvc head unit that makes a big difference over the crappy stock head units for uses

So nobody knows if that high hat thing can be turned off or disconected? Cause I am perfectly content with using the tweeter speakers already mounted in the doors from the factory. I keep reading on these sites about speakers sounding like crap when hooked up this way or that way, and I cant really tell if the peeps saying such things are ones who are serious audio philes or what. All I want is to get rid of the ratteling speaker in my door and have my audio on par with factory sounding specs. If I get an improvement that would be great but its not really what im aiming for. My only major concern is making it sound worse. If the speaker I choose is a component 2 way like i picked out, How much of a difference will it actually make in the "highs" when I already have the door tweeters hooked up?

Technically the speakers you picked out are not component speakers. Component speakers are those that have separate woofer and tweeter and an external crossover.
That being said, the ones you picked out should work fine for what you're wanting to do. I'd suggest getting some kind of sound dampening kit for the speakers like dynomat etc. to put beneth the speaker and prevent rattle. Dynomat makes a kit for @ $10 that is a pair of 10" squares. This actually works pretty well.
For the spakers you get look at the specs for them before making a choice. Things to look at is the frequency range in htz. ex. 50-2100htz, and the responce rate in DB. The higher the rating in DB the louder the spekers will sound a given amount of power. This means that a speaker with a response rate of 90db is going to sound louder than a speaker with a response rate of 85db.
As for that high hat you're talking about. Are you still using the stock head unit? I don't remember what controls you have available with that. If you have any kind of equalizer you can adjust (lower) the highs to a level that is comfortable for you. Even if all you have is the ability to lower the trebble this will work. Aftermarket headunits should have even greater adjustability. Look at your owners manual to see how.
I didn't read all the reviews for the polk speakers on crutchfield but, I'm thinking the people who were complaining about the highs are a bunch of wanabee audiophiles that were too cheap to buy the really good stuff.
Hope that helps.

what head unit do you have? and what factory system do you have? mach 460? if so then the 5x7 door speakers are only low pass speakers basicly subs, all of you highs come from the mach tweeters in the top corners of your doors, that being said if you install these polks, you would be better off not even using the built on tweeter b/c it will be getting a low pass signal

Hey I thought this thread died! Umm there was some good info given here and thank you guys for your input.
As far as just replacing it with a factory speaker. . . . I would RATHER have something a little better than factory as far as build quallity. The paper cone speakers that Ford uses are OK I guess. I just dont want the speakers to blow again. I dont want to replace em again.
