okay, so just a random question i thought of.

how does Meguiar's Professional series wax's compare to stuff like poor boys and stuff like that??

because, it looks like the Meguiars professional, it has the most depth out of the cheap stuff i use. i can get it at my local o'reilly so it makes it very convient (sp) for me to buy it. plus the guys up there can order and stock other Meguiar's Professional if i ask them to, for like $2 more.

i would also like to know this, cause i have been using the Turtle Wax spray on stuff. works nicely, my car is still nice and mirror-shiney. makes me wonder if meguiars is worth the price.

 

well really.. a wax doesnt make the shine,, well it does, but its hard to put this out there. a wax basically is an abrasive cleaner like soap, except really powerful! So when you wax a car all you do is take all the roughness and scum off of the paint surface. SO when it becomes smooth, it shines. My car when u lean against it u almost fall over where i keep it sooo shined.. BUT i use the ICE wax. u can get a pack at advance for 15 dollars i think, around there. comes with microfiber towel and applicator.. u can do the whole car, then come back and use the towel.. with carnuaba and other waxes u have to do small squares. then buff them. with the ICE polish u can do it alot quicker. BUT its harder to see the places u have waxed.. so i recommend doing the whole car then going back with a nice buff.

I have used a lot of different waxes on both of my 'Stangs. Zymol, Meguiars, Turtle Wax, Eagle One, blah blah blah. Best wax I have ever used hands down is the Meguiar's Deep Crystal System (for dark colored cars) and the Meguiar's NXT. I'd like to try Poorboy's, though.

 

Meguiars and alot of the over the counter waxs are not that bad but waxs like Poorboys (love them),Zaino,are very nice and usually work alot better.

Alot of how it turns out is your prep work and proper use of the product your using.

That is not really true. First of all, not all waxes have cleaners, and the majority dont have abrasives. Therefore, waxes generally do not take the "roughness and scum off the paint surface." The only ones that will do things like that are all in ones. These contain very fine abrasives, cleaners, and either Carnauba or typically a polymer sealant. Just because paint is smooth, doesnt mean its going to shine. You do not have to do small squares with all waxes.

If you're happy with the Megs products than stick with them. When it comes down to it, wax adds very little to the final look of the paint. What really brings out the gloss is the paint correction process, or prep work as Lance said. The goal of the paint correction process is to remove the damaged paint and level it out so light reflects off it properly.

 

I think almost everyone one with a black stang wants it to look like lance's. that car is just incredible. I know i would love to see my car look like that

 

You should look into using the Meguiars Mirror Glaze line. I started using just the wax (#26) about a year ago and it has the greatest shine out of any wax I have ever used. It lasts longer, shines brighter, much deeper than anything I've seen. I have since used the #7 Glaze with the #26 Wax and it was even better. For Christmas I asked for a few bottles of the stuff. Now I have the swirl remover (#9), Cleaner Wax (#6), Glaze (#7), the Wax (#26), and 2.0 Sealant (#21). I haven't used those all together yet, but believe me thier will be a photo shoot coming when I do. I get my stuff from either Autogeek.com or Detailcity.com. Everything is in the $10 a bottle range, except the sealant which is ~$20.

Edit: After looking at your picture thread it seems your already using these. So......stay the course.

 

i want to try the show car glaze #7.. and then i also want to get a the quicky detailer. spray stuff that gives it a nice shiny for a short period. perfect for pictures

 

Yeah, what he said. High quality waxes are nothing but WAX. P21S, for example, is 100% pure wax.....and cost $40 a jar because of it. Most so called "waxes" are not even waxes, but people refer to them generically as such.

Just as been said....it is all in prep. I prefer using products where you have to clean, seal, and then then put on a topper wax.

It really depends on what you want and your needs. Do you drive a lot? Are you going to shows? Do you want someting easy to use?

For a DD, a product with polymers like NXT is a good choice. For a show car, something like P21S would be better (better shine, but wears off faster).

I am a big fan of detail sprays. I use Sonus carnuba spray and Sonus Acrylic sprays on all my cars. I prepfer the later and if your car is prepped correctly, nothing beats Acrylic on a car. I simply use the sprays every time I wash them and only wax my cars about once a year. It only adds a few minutes to each wash. Even if I go to a car wash, I hit it with the spray afterwards.

 

IMO waxes are dumb unless you've waxed it from day one. SxyXc your car looks nice, but I can clearly see the spots in the pictures of your other posts where there are still swirl marks and buff spots. If you've waxed the car from day one more power to you. Black cars look AMAZING when waxed, but if not done properly it just brings out the flaws. Then you have to resort to good ole photoshop lol.

Not saying waxes are useless I use the ICE wax and I love it. Like krenogin said, with all the other waxes I feel limited to small areas at a time, and with the retarded weather out here I don't want to spend more than a couple of hours cleaning my car when it'll be ruined the next day.

You do not have to only use waxes from the start of owning a car. Even a car in bad shape if it still has decent paint can be corrected and cleaned and polished. Also ICE is straight garbage and you should check out some other products that are much much better.

And waxs are all not the same at all. Trust me over the counter stuff does not compair to my poorboys or other products I have. Some over the counter is decent and for most people its all they need, but alot of it is straight crap.

 

Buffing is definately an art. Most people don't realize how much time and experience that buffing requires before getting "good" at it.

As for wax, I believe you get out of it what you put into it. I dont believe all this "spray on, and wipe off" crap. It requires a lot of good ol' elbow grease. My 06 when I first got it had what felt like little specks of pine sap all over the hood, top, and trunk. I tried polish, but it didn't touch it. I then hand rubbed it with 3M Perfect-It, two and sometimes three coats on each are. I then followed it with two good coats of hand rubbed polish, and then two good coats of wax. It now looks like it was dipped in clear coat, like it's still wet.

I always liked Rain Dance, but it's not available any more. I would like to try Poorboys, but for now, I have great luck with Meguires Mirror Glaze. Waxes and polishes have changed alot over the years, but then again, so has paint.
