what has everyone done with their mach 460?
So im about tired of having this damn mach junk in my car...it sounds sooo bad
... Im running an aftermarket headunit and subs....but the stocks amps are still running after the deck.
Since im not satisfied at all i think the only thing to de here is bypass those shitty stockamps...i know they have to be whats making this sound so bad...i have a higher end cd player and i know even with shitty stock speakers there should be more clarity then that....it acually doesnt distort that easy and cranks up pretty loud but its dirty sounding even at low volumes...im thinking if i run wire from my headunit directly to each speaker bypassing the factory amps it would help......i do plan on changing out the stock speakers too just not quite yet( just spent a ton of money doing it to my truck so the car has to wait a month or so)...and one thing about that, im sure ill just end up doing component sets so ill just put the dome tweeter in place of the 2.5,but if i dont go with component sets i dont know where to find 2.5 inch speakers....im not car audio dumb i used to install for a living just never came across somethng that will fit in place of the stock highs.....
I just wanna know what all you guys have done to improve on the sound in your mustangs...

get aftermarket speakers and keep the amps. i dont have a mach system. so i had my head unit powering my speakers (pioneers) and when i put my amp in (1200 watts) it sounded so much better. since then i have taken out my amp and all the wiring for it cause i thought that the deck did just fine. plus it was weight i didnt need. lol

no idea. i just got the plug and play pioneers from Best Buy for $60 a set (of 2). sound fine to me. they could use a lil bass but its managable. i can always put my sub bak in if i wanted

you should do what I did. I just bypassed the stock amps. They are junk. They only put out like 13watts rms and thats only to the woofer channel. The tweeters dont even run off the amp, just the headunit. I tossed the 6 disc changer in the garbage and went to the pawn shop and bought a used sony chameleon headunit for $50. Its works great and no scratches. I went and bought new speaker wire from the store and ran it directly from the headunit out to the speakers. The sound is AMAZINGLY better. I mean its 100% better. No more distortion and crappy sounding beats. Now the sound is clear even when you turn it all the way up and its MUCH cleaner. The beats are nice and punchy. Its obvious that the sony CD player puts out much more power than the stock Mach amps ever did. I cant wait until I get my new 4 channel amp in a few weeks then itll be the best ever!

this is something i have to do because if i turn the volume up past 15 i get distortion. plus everytime i turn my car on the damn speakers pop and i hate it. its not the ground because the installers tested it with a chasis ground, same result. stupid stock amps.
#8
what do you mean by pop? is it coming from the rear deck? if thats where its coming from then its the speaker deck itself. there is something thats moving that is not supposed to move. if its wat i think ur talking about pm me and ill dig up the article that explains exactly what it is.

Ford Mid/Low-Pass Amp - 2x85w = 170w Max. 2x43.5w = 85w Nom.
230w / 13v = 17.7 amps Nom. 4 Ohms at 2% THD
460w / 13v = 35.4 amps Max. 4 Ohms at 2% THD
13w rms? haha what are you smoking crack? you are always filled with wrong information.

Sounds like crap. always bottoming out and distorting.
As im sure as MattJ is fully aware, building a good aftermarket stereo system really is an art.
You gotta find synergy between components, pay attention to the crossover levels and use quality amplification.
Lotta people just grab a head unit and power 4 crappy speakers then get the most powerful/cheapest amplification and throw it all together and turn the gain all the way up on everything. And for some reason they seem to think that distored *** sound is good.
there definatly is a balance to be achieved. And Balance is something the mach 1000 does in SPADES. dunno bout the 460. never heared it.

2 12's with dual voicecoils, i believe it has one amp per voicecoil, so 4 amps on the subs, and there are two bolted up upside down at the top of the trunk. dunno if there are anymore, i think 6 is all it has

Visteon's MACH 1000 upgrade package, designed specifically for Mustang owners, builds on the 460 platform by adding four additional subwoofer amplifiers and two 10-inch subwoofer enclosures — giving Mustang owners an ear-popping 570 watts of continuous average power and 1,140 watts of peak power. The MACH 1000 Audio System uses subwoofers that have two coils working in parallel, which essentially gives consumers the power of two amplifiers within each subwoofer enclosure. Known as "Dual Voice Coil" speakers, this technology gives the systems plenty of power and terrific bass response; they can easily handle frequencies below 20 Hz.

I'm running my mach 460 with my eclipse deck, eclipse 12" sub, and zapco amp. With all the adjustments on my deck, my 460 sounds great. I haven't changed a thing. Just added the sub and made adjustments through the deck. It does seem like alot of people have problems/issues with the mach 460 but I love mine.

Hey guys, I gotta a thread working on the Parts page about speaker grills. How can I find out if I have a Mach 460 system? I bought a used '94 GT 5.0 for my daughter, and it's missing the rear passenger seat speaker grill. But it has an aftermarket Kenwood head unit, but I haven't got a clue about he speakers. They're stamped "Prestige" on the cone.

im gonna get a kick out of mattj's responce.
oh yah, the mach 460 has 3 amps. there is one in the front beneath the head unit.
Front Amp Mach 460 and 1000 = Located in dash console under radio/CD player. This amp powers the front and rear high frequency (Mid/Tweeters 2.5") speakers and sends the low frequency signal via a series fader to the rear amps
Rear Amps MACH 460 (x2) = Located in the trunk mounted on the sound board. One on each side of the car. The amps provide a mono bass signal to the mid/woofers. These two amps power the front and rear low frequency (Mid/Woofers 5.5"x7.5") speakers. If you own a convertible the amps are located behind the rear seat mounted to the rear wheel hump.
Mach 1000:
Ford Hi/Mid-Pass Amp - 2x60w = 120w Max. 2x30w = 60w Nom.
Ford Mid/Low-Pass Amp - 2x85w = 170w Max. 2x43.5w = 85w Nom.
Visteon MA185 Subwoofer Amp - 2x85w = 170w Max. 2x43.5w = 85w Nom.
570w / 13v = 36.5 amps Nom. 4 Ohms at 2% THD
1140w / 13v = 73 amps Max. 4 Ohms at 2% THD

since yer the one calling bullshit on all the printed technical information out there, why dont you go get a ****ing ocilliscope and go prove us wrong? either put up or shut up.
lol....

Not that I'm the most knowledgeable person when it comes to car audio, but I know better to put in a Sony headunit or any Sony component for that matter. If your trying to build a good stereo system or a reasonably priced one, why would you go with Sony? They are the biggest pieces of crap.

Lol!!!!!!!
Actually, cannot completly discount Sony. Thier entire XPLODE line is pure trash and i wouldnt install that **** in an import let alone a domestic.
wow... actually i just now went through sony's webside. is the Xplode all they have now?
That sucks. Yah, sony's Xplode line is garbage. Ive heared those systems countless times cause they claim MASSIVE power with a very small price tag. kids buy that stuff up like crack.
So far i have yet to hear an EXPLODE system that doesent sound like ****.
I dunnot about thier decks tho, im mostly just talking about thier amps and subs. total junk.

Ill drink to that!

I just have this headunit for temorary until I can get a nice one. My old stock mach 6-disk broke and I went and bought this one for $50. Ive had better cd players and I can tell that this one isnt all that crappy. I actually like it, not that I wanna keep it any longer than I have to. Its the chameleon one where its got the black face and it looks pretty clean. Its much better than the stock one so im ok with it for now.

Jack, if you want to hear the Mach460, hit the mach1000 button in your car untill it says "all seats".
Pre-2001 has an amplifier underneath the top radio in mach 460 equiped Mustangs. 2001+ has an internal amp that puts out the same wattage from the head unit. Hows that for being an idiot... lol Dont believe me? Ask randy for part numbers. Infact, I have one downstairs if youd like a picture of it.
I know what the amps are. Im the one who listed the ratings. lol Ford usually underrates their stuff. Mustangs are under-rated including the ford gt, and the shelby cobra as well. Even down to the old cobra jets and mach 1s. Id be willing to bet the mach 460 still puts out 200w rms at 12.8v. I can do the math and embarass you but ill hold off untill your further responses.
Its called mach 460 because thats the peak numbers it puts out. Obviously thats at nominal conditions with low total harmonic distortion and optimal voltage, however 230 rms out of the system is highly obtainable, even under high distortion.
Mark my words, I WILL KISS YOUR *** ON OPRAH, if your sony head unit puts out 25w rms in an optimal setting. If you can clip it to put out 25w rms, I will even use my tounge. Sony is garbage. And since you an owner of a Sony head unit, your future arguments are void.
I have FAR FAR FAR more audio experience than you. I have audio tropheys taller than your car from my previous hobby of 12v electronics which includes 5th place at world finals in 0-300 basic consumer (sound quality) and 2nd place at midwest finals in SPL using a single 12, state record, blah blah blah, among others. You can tell me all you want but you are wrong and I am right.
I am a greater person than you, so I am allowed to do so. Thank you! Come again!
the stock amps put out less power than my sony headunit. thats why you get distortion when you turn the volume up high. the sony headunit I have is 50watts MAX to each channel. That means its gonna be somewhere around 25-30 watts continuous. The sony does not distort because its putting more power than the stock amps. If it was putting out 60watts rms to each speaker it would not distort like that.
