Default someone should make a supercharger sticky

- with base facts from the manufacture sites
- some people here that have poweradders
- the pros and cons of different poweradders (forced induction only)
- differences between roots, twin screw, turbo, and centrifugal poweradders
- extra parts that are needed that arent mentioned on different sites with good deals on blowers i.e: fuel pumps, injectors, plugs, IAT's etc, etc
- just anything that can help simple and common questions: i.e. how much power will i make, how much boost can i run, intercooled non-intercooled, different types of chips and hand held tuners.

i know some of you guys noticed the supercharger questions from some FNG's on this site lately.

i just thought i would throw this up in the air. maybe someone will help, im not the best at this type of thing but im sure i could help.

I made what i thought was a good post on positive displacement S/C VS Cent S/C VS Turbo but nobody responded

I duno about making it a sticky but to be honest i dont like typing this stuff over and over again.

"wow there is a lot of mis-information here.

First, lets look at the three types of Forced Induction.

1. Positive Displacement Supercharger (aka eaton KB whipple)
Pros: Near instant boost, (aka boost off idle) peak boost is generally made between 2000-3000rpms.
Cons: This is the least efficiant Type of Forced Induction. Although peak boost is made off idle the blower becomes less and less efficiant as it spins. Basically starts awsome then just kinda drops off as you Rev. This Supercharger makes the least ammount of power. Also, as with all Belt driven Boost, there is a lot of Parasitic loss (need power to make power)

2. Centrifugal Supercharger (aka vortech Powerdyne Procharger)
Pros: Makes better power then the Positive Displacement Supercharger, no "spool" like a turbo, meaning you can put it in gear and press the gas down and you make boost, the boost you make will be heavly dependent on RPM, but it will happen. Unlike the Positive displacement supercharger, the Centrifugal gains boost as the RPMS increase, and makes more boost the more RPMS. Cent's generally make more power then Positive Displacement
Cons: You do not make peak boost untill just before you shift, so your only at peak boost for a second. so an 11psi kit will ONLY make 11psi @ redline (or w/e you shift) Also, just like the Positive displacement Supercharger, it is belt driven so the parasitic loss makes it fairly inneficiant because it takes power from the motor to make power (2 steps forward 1 step back)

3.Turbocharger (garret etc)
Pros: Most efficiant Boost possible. Also the most customizable and flexable. Depending on how the kit is set up you can make boost off idle (like a Positive Displacement) or you can make peak boost at 3,000rpms or whereever you want! It is all about how you set it up. A properly set up Turbocharger will make more peak power, more peak torque, and more power under the curve then any Supercharger.
Cons: Spool, it takes a few seconds for the gas to build up enough pressure to spool the turbo to make boost, Spool is dependend on the type of turbo, size, ball bearing or not etc that you have. This means that for a split second when you step on the gas, there will be a SLIGHT hesitation before you take off. In a well set up turbo car it is not an issue AT ALL. Only in poorly setup kit do you feel any of the feared "turbo lag"

I hope this clears some stuff up. Because Turbocharging is prolly the least known Type of Forced Induction, most people misunderstand it.

Look at these two dynographs, same car. One is a turbocharger @ 8.8psi the other is a Procharger @ 11psi both intercooled.

Procharger @ 11psi

Turbo @ 8.8psi

Which one of those would you like to have?"

there is a sticky about nitrous. with the daily supercharger questions maybe its time for one to be made.

i remember that post from a long time ago. the newbies forget to look at the search button.
