Bring the troops home??

Regardless if you think we should have went to Iraq or not.....do you think it's time to bring the troops home? Why or why not?

PColav6 05-31-2006 04:55 PM

We need to finish the job. Leaving now would make us the laughing stock of the world for investing billions of $$ and several years into a foreign country, only to pull out of it like that.

madmatt 05-31-2006 05:04 PM

Exactly. We dont go somewhere, tear it to hell, and then dip out. GW is very adament about finishing what was started.

GREG@SN95 05-31-2006 05:07 PM

:stupid:

stay til the end... don't need to pull the same stupid move that we pulled in 'Nam

jjtgiants 05-31-2006 05:07 PM

Ok, let me ask this question and obviously none of us are foreign policy experts by trade, but for arguments sake..... what does "finish the job" mean? We went there, we beat the crap out of the Iraqi army....we got Saddam.

I'm just frustrated because I'm now reading stories about our troops killing alleged innocent people....... yeah, I don't think that should happen, but what do people expect when our troops are under the stress of constantly having to watch their back because every single person you come in contact with MIGHT blow you up!

PColav6 05-31-2006 05:41 PM

Finish the job ie: get Iraq started again, right now, they aren't producing jack or doing anything for themselves, we're doing it for them. Once their army is fully trained, maybe start rebuilding their market and let them be independent, instead of dependent on the US

madmatt 05-31-2006 06:01 PM

My opinion on finished. A strong, stable democracy, and get rid of a large portion of the insurgents. Also, train the Iraqi's to handle themselves in combat situations, so that a week after they elect a new leader, he doesnt get capped...

I agree. The only problem is, it'll take atleast a decade to establish a stable government and military/police force in Iraq. I think it was a ****-for-brains decision to blow the **** out of Iraq in the first place, but I do agree that we can't just leave now. We got butt-****ed by Bush because now that we've put billions into destroying the country, we have to put billions into rebuilding; not counting the lives lost in destroying and trying to rebuild.

Rejekt 06-03-2006 09:12 AM

Yeah, we don't go somewhere, tear it to hell and then leave. We go somewhere, tear it to hell, end up losing hundreds of our soldiers, then pay billions to rebuild, become victims of more terrorist attacks and then go back in yet again. The war is all crap and Bush isn't gonna bring the soldiers home unless he was a soldier or his kids were. We all know what his kids are though lol

Badfish 06-03-2006 09:16 AM

eh...i say pull the troops out and nuke the mutha ****as

Yea that'll be grand. Then when we're not expecting it all the big countries in the Middle-east can send their nukes at us at one time so we get ****ed. SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN! :poke:

I hear people say that **** all the time. That could be the dumbest, most arrogant solution I've ever heard. Not to mention the fact that the U.S. already has a bad rep as the bully of the world. Just nuking the **** outta them would turn our allies against us and eventually start a world war, which we would not win because we'd be by ourselves.

You're an idiot for taking me seriously.

I know you are kidding. But I do hear that a lot and I have actually said it a few times but..damn..we are constantly busting other countries balls for them producing nuclear weapons and here we go using them lol. How hypocritcal would that be lol.

Anyway I agree with staying till the job is done. This all started because of Osama so we need to bust his ass and get that place cleaned up.

Badfish 06-03-2006 12:40 PM

It would be nice to just nuke them with no repercussions..but unfortunatley that could never be so :(

Yeah but....if you knew something about our nuclear weapons and what it TAKES to use them, it's not as easy as a flick of the switch. The president can't just go "Hey lets nuke those bitches!" he's under check by other people. Whereas in other countries..for example - Iran, that crazy old bastard can do whatever he wants whenever he wants and no one in his country can stop him.

Now, we gave Saddam his ultimatum, he thought we were full of crap, and got his army and his own ass handed to him.

Rejekt 06-03-2006 08:23 PM

Yeah, started because of the Sept. 11th attacks and went from Osama and the taliban to Saddam and Iraq, convenient isn't it? Amazes me that we can find Saddam in a hole in the ground and yet we can't find an old man surrounded by other people who is sick..... Amazing. The job has been done, the job was done the first day we bombed Afghanistan. The rest is just Bush trying to impress daddy at the expense of the American people. We need another Ronald Regean.

I wasn't taking you seriously, you're an idiot for thinking I did. I give you more credit than that. It's not even funny to joke about because it's the most retarded statement I've ever heard. Just the fact that that solution is in people's minds supports the stereotype of arrogant and selfish Americans.

We nuked Japan twice in world war 2, and then occupied the country.

We are STILL there.

We will be in iraq a long time. America has never really been into the Hit & Leave thing. We are still in korea... germany.... japan... we will be in iraq for quite a while.

Ya kno if we wouldn't have nuked Japan.. you'd be driving a Honda Civic right now instead of a Mustang. :helpsmili Think about it, lol

And, it doesn't really matter that we still have military forces in Japan, or Germany...the forces over there are about 2% of our military and it's not like they're there for a combat role.

They are over there to prevent the need for a combative role. The whole issue is that they shouldn't be over there in the first place. There is no need to be in Germany because we aren't at war with them and they aren't near any areas of conflict.

True. They went from a combat role to an enforecer role to a peace keeping role to a defencive role. its changed.

There is a show on Comcast On-Demand im been wanting to get around to seeing. It is about how the Japanese tested thier own nuclear device 6 days after we bommed hiroshima. You bet your ass if we would have waited a week or two they would have beat us to the punch.
VVVVWWAAAP!!!!!!!! There goes NJ! Sorry Greg!

I think it is a lot more than 2% over there though. There are a bunch of bases out there. Yokota AB, Misawa AB, Yokuska Naval Base, and more. Not to mention the base we have in okinawa. Its a good stratigic place.

Iraq would be strategic to stick around in too.

dont get me wrong, i'd like to see our troops come home. i just dont see it happening anytime soon. we will have troops out there for the next 10-20 years easily. Hopefully in the next 5 years though the Iraqui's will start to get used to our presence and things will mellow a bit.

Japanese hated us when we arrived. They love us now.

then again..... there are some severe cultural differences between the japanese and iraquis. lol

I think germany would get pretty pissed if we just pulled out.
Same with japanese. They have been relying on the US military for defence, it has been a nice free ride for them when it comes to defence.
Thing about germany is the geneva convention stated they were not allowed to have a military. lol...

From what i know, of all the people i have talked to in the various liocations the US miitary has presence, almost ALL of them are happy to have us there.

The germans might not like the US's policy, but they love that we have a buttload of military weaponry to protect them. Plus they seem to like americans individually. Japanese are the same. We are in Saudi, Turkey, England, we are EVERYWHERE.....

The Idea of bailing out of Iraq sounds like a good one, however, i get a feeling that if we just "upped and out" that things there would get a lot worse. The fractured nation would have civil war, territorys and boundrys will be divided, and IF saddam REALLY DID have WMD and hid them, and one of those groups gets a hold of them, they will happily nuke the bejesus out of the other group and probably try to find a way to hit us with one of them too.

I still think we will eventually find WMD's,.... might not be anytime in the future, but why else would saddam time and time again dodge the weapon inspectors? They have either been moved to another country, destroyed, buried, or hidden somewhere remote. The idea that there are none there?
Saddam KNEW what he was facing if he diddnt cooperate. Why was he so insistant to NOT cooperate?
they are these somewhere.
:devil2:

I agree that they love us, but we (the tax payers) need to stand up because this is bull**** that we are putting millions into protecting Germany, which is doing nothing for us. We need to quit this :icon_bs: and stop baby-sitting these countries. They have an established government and some sort of law enforcement. Back in 1776 did we have anyone baby-sitting us? Nope, infact we had the number one world power fighting us. I just think before we go into the 22nd century, we'll be occupying 50%-75% of the entire world. We're pretty damn close right now.
