03 Dark Shadow Grey GT Coupe. Premium with the Automatic Transmission. Mods are SLP Loudmouth Exhaust, BBK CAI, BBK 70mm TB, Mach 1 Grille delete, MGW shfit knob and a Cobra shifter boot.
To take care of the paint, I use Zaino on the body and the painted section of the wheels. I have 10 coats on the car right now, these pictures are with 5 coats. And here's a shot of my shifter setup. Any other automatic guys looking to do this, just ask and I'll share. ![]() ![]()

You're right. (I'm blind....guess the shifter boot threw me off). And yes. It's the 4R70W. I don't know a whole lot about this transmission though. Anything important performance-wise i should know about? |

If you plan on driving your car hard, you're going to want to do a Jerry-Mod and Transmission cooler as soon as possible. Heat is the #1 killer of automatic transmissions, and the factory cooler won't cut it.
I'm getting both of these items done later this month. The boot throws everyone off. I like it because it doesn't look cheap like the stock auto shifter, and since you can't see the gear selection, only I can drive my car. ![]()

the J-mod you might be able to do yourself... i'm not comfortable cracking my transmission open so I wont' be, but its not too bad. Tranny cooler is easy.

Some days I wish I had a stick because its alot of fun and I like stick. but I live in Los Angeles and traffic SUCKS! I've got a 40 mile each way commute to school through some of the worst of it. Every time I sit in that, I think, man I'm glad I got the automatic. The fun on the weekends just isn't worth the hassle every other day. Not to mention, auto's are very consistent at the track. So, no, the shifter is not "5 speed envy" as I have been told so many times before, its simply me replacing what I feel to be the cheapest looking interior part Ford put in these cars.

Wow... i like the shifter boot thing you got going on there man! How did you go about doing that? Do it custom with a shift boot from a manual (i know the hole is the same shape and all) and some how jimmy rig it to fit, or is there a kit you can get? (I have a manual 95' V6 , but i have a friend with an automatic 00' GT that might be interested...)

more or less a jimmy rig for the boot.
I bought a cobra stock boot from 50resto.com, and basically have it taped into place from the under side. No probelms with it, had it there for 8 months now.
