I'm looking to upgrade from the 7.5 axle to an 8.8 axle with posi and 3.73 gears.. I was wondering if the dimensions of the 05-09 8.8 rear axle are same as the dimensions on a 98 mustang and if there will be any modifications done when installing the 8.8 axle. Any info will help thanks

 

yes it is different. i believe it got slightly wider every body style. fox, sn95, new edge, then sn197. so i would think it may be slightly too wide. i am going to be putting a new edge with some 3.27 gears on my 96 and it will be slightly wider than the one on it. as far as modding goes i am not sure. i have been told i can bolt my new edge right up with transfering a couple of things from my old one. don't know about the sn197 rear ends. i would stick with a 94-04 rear end. that's me though.
