So, as all of you know, I'm starting an auto detailing business. I'm just curious, as Stang owners, how many of you really enjoy detailing your car and getting good car care products?

I've spent close to $600 in car care products. Now, a good amount of that are 1 gallon chemicals since I want them in bulk. I also pretty much have a dedicated chemical for every need of the car care area. 95% of these products can't be found in stores and are really the best of the best.

I just spent $95 on two jars of an extremely nice wax named Pinnacle Souveran: http://autogeek.net/pinsouvwax.html. Normally they are $80 for one jar, so this was one hell of a deal going on. (was a Valentine's Day special). Each jar is 8oz.

Here are my supplies so far. I still have one final $200 order coming soon. (Ignore the room, is my sister's room who doesn't live here anymore)

 

we order stuff at work by 5 gallon jugs and most of it needs to be watered down because its concentrated. only things i personally buy is my own waxes and polishes.

porter cable, buffer, pads, 1500 psi pressure washer, washmits, soap, buffing compound, tire dressing, wheel acid and wheel cleaner, clay, detail spray, degreaser, + more... all that stuff is supplied by work.

 

Some of my heavier used chemicals are concentrated.

how much you chargin for a full detail? a place around my house will fully detail your car inside and out and they will come to your house if you wanted them too for around $200

Considering I detail for a living, I have quite a bit of chemicals. Mostly Car Brite and Professional Products stuff, and anything else I've found useful along the way.

i hardly spend anything at all. normally, just a Bottle of wax, clay bar, Quick detail, and tire shine every spring and maybe again middle of summer

 

Not a member of any detailing forums at this moment. I might have to check them out. I am head detailer at a Buick, Saturn, Subaru Dealership and do some side jobs, not too many as of lately. Used to do alot of rich people's car's on the side (SS Camaro's, 63 impala's, did a 62 Shelby Cobra that was sweet) but have since gotten away from it since I work so many hours at the dealership.

You should check into the brands you use and see if they have any training offered. Yes, I said training. I am Car Brite certified. Car Brite is the worlds largest leading distributor of car care products at the professional level, and they offer a two day training course on processes, products, and how to stuff (like using a buffer correctly, and what rpms should be used for glazing, compounding, etc.) You get a certificate saying you are a car brite certified automotive reconditioner (they say anyone can detail, but only the skilled can recondition). The course is free and they provide lunch both days. It is offered at their Indianapolis, IN location. Something like that would look good on your wall and to customers and would allow you get a detailing job almost anywhere if your business didn't work out for some reason. Good luck with it though, I will start my own eventually when I get some stuff paid off!

 

95% of my products I'm using are boutique products. Not many of the cheaper concentrated chemicals. That's one thing I'm really priding myself on.

I'll definately have to look into that carbrite training. Even though I am not using any of their products currently, it would certaintly be nice to have the training. I also am just using a PC DA and not a rotary as of yet. I'll be purchasing a Hitachi in the next couple months.
Also, I am 100% mobile detailing, so that certificate would have to be hung somewhere!!

 

Well my wash/brite/wax is supplied by my g/fs dad..hes makes it... caranuba wax ..all liquid forms..

I get it for free... but i think people pay like...$200 for it..

Wash mit/Micro Rags/Baby Diapers (they are a towel when i apply my brite and wax..) California Squeege thing.. comes up around like $40

My tire dressing ..thats just some armorall normally..

Rims..I used the wash to clean the rims as well as the brite.. it cleans them extremely well

Interior..just some wipes..

So probably up close to $300..

Do you put them in containers like that because you don't want your customers to know what brands you use or something?

 

No, I think it is just easier to transport and use... I say that because I see one bottle says NXT and that suggests a name brand.
It also looks more professional 0_^

 

The main reason I do it is because it's much easier to transport. Most of my heavily used chemicals are in 1gal containers, not to mention they are concentrated so they need to be dilluted to begin with.

All the little bottles you see are 8oz. The original size of the bottles that those chemicals came in are 12 oz, 16oz., and 32 oz. It's just simply not economical to bring big bottles.

Also, all those 8oz. bottles are soaps, sealants, polishes, compounds, and conditioners/protectants. I use very very little per car. Basically, an 8oz. bottle of a compound, polish, or sealant should last me at least 10-15 cars.

The bottles with a red tip are my leather conditioners, the ones with the flip tops are sealants/polishes/compounds. The ones with the cap flip (NXT, DG, and 4&1), are all my soaps I use depending on the car and package.

You know whats funny. When people say they detailed their car and all they did was wash and wax it. Thats FAR from detailing. I need to order my edge pads and some other random things then Ill be ready for summer again, I cant wait.
