well, the truth is I'm never going to save enough money to fullfill my dream of owning a KB... not for at least 2 more years at least (because of finishing school, having to take a million certification tests which cost money, moving, getting a new job). So in the ultimate goal to obtain more power for my car I've decided on the ultimate NA mod.. cams of course. (again)
ok. I'm thinking if I do this I need to go all out.. which I'm thinking VT Stage 2, so I would need new springs and valves, correct? Anything else I should replace? stock cam gears are alright? I'm hoping to hit 300 at the wheels with some luck of the tuners, we'll see.. should I be concerned with replacing anything else because of the horsepower?

Christie, cams are never going to get you where you want and only delay saving for a blower even more. I think you might be a bit caught up in "I have to get a KB or nothing". Why not get a nice used Vortech for about $2500? It's gonna cost you over a $1000 for the cams (cams+springs+tuning) anyway. And that's installing yourself.

You do not need to replace the valves they are fine just the cams and springs need to be replaced.
And people like the KB because it makes crazy power down low that street cars love. drag racers will take that power up top so you can get out of the hole and move it. Me i wouldnt use anything but ATI.

well I won't buy used parts, I've been down that road once and was burned. I'd rather just fork out the extra cash for new parts and not have to worry about it. I have considered S/C's other than the KB. Yeah cams will cost me around $1k, but I'd have to save almost another $3k past that just for a mongoose kit. With all the money I have to dish out on just my certification tests I'll be taking over the next year I'll never be able to save that much. But just doing cams I could do. and then after I'm done with certs, school, and get moved and into a new job hopefully making some decent money i can afford a new block and any s/c i want lol

TRANSLATION: I'm being realistic now = staying SLOW
Nitrous is a great option if the funds for a blower aren't available....unless you wanna stay SLOW Jay

at what hp do you generally need a new fuel pump? and what about fuel injectors? I know the 03's have the pink which are.. 24lb? I can't remember, but when do those have to be upgraded. and what about MAF? I'm trying to make my shopping list
![]() I don't really care much for nitrous right now, but I wouldn't rule it out for the future because I'm more fond of it now than in the past.

Front what I understand, when you do the 100 shot, its a good idea to get the focus pump, but as far as I know, the stock injectors are fine.

Actually Christie, spray might be a great option for you. Why? It has a low set up cost, gets great power for when you want it, AND you can pull it all off and sell it when you have the money for something else.
S****, I have a complete system off my car. For probably less then $600 you could get a nice setup (hint hint), make 350 rwhp no problem and not have to worry about killing the car.

If you do go with nitrous then NX is the only way to go.
I think ported heads and cams would be a nicer addition than a blower or nitrous though. Your not adding something that puts tons of stress on the motor. Plus you get a brand new valvetrain. And I think the cams would sound so good at idle.
