did you ever dyno it?
our parts lists are horridly similar.
Speaking of which, who here thinks that 42lbs injectors and a SVT Focus pump will be enough for my car. I'm figuring 435rwhp and proabably 500lbs tq. It's only the stock L pulley and I have cams and port matched heads with big valves. I put the huge *** rails on to hopefully help deaden the injector pulses when the fuel pump goes to 100% duty cycle.
I've read that I can't reliably use a BAP on a focus pump due to pump blow-off. I may go ahead and pop for a Fore twin hat and an extra FPDM.
Thoughts?

your answer was provided in your other thread. There... now noone else will gripe at you.
I'll take future questions via PM if they're specific. General opinion and guess questions not included. Those of us that have done it already have tacitly agreed to do what we can to help keep this thread free of repetitive questions by taking newbs under the wing so to speak and helping you out 1:1. As long as it doesn't get out of hand. savvy

im considering getting some lightning rods and pistons in order to save some money on the swap while still having some good forged pistons and rods. my question is will the lower compression be helpful r harmful if im running nitrous?
#7934
nitrous loves compression. You lose compression, you lose power.
I'd really not advise the L rods. They're nothing but stock 5.4 rods. Go to ebay and search for "6.658 rod TMD"

With lightning Pistons it would be in the ballpark of 8:4:1.(Good for Boost)
If you run a 99-02 set of heads with 44cc combustion chambers and a 2.66 Dish piston it should put you somewhere around 10:9:1 Which is more ideal for a Nitrous only motor
The strongest factory style rods to date are the rods used in the supercharged 5.4L lightning. And 03/04 Cobras...

Well, I decided to check in with you all and see how everyone is progressing...
Little update on mine....Still down....never even got it to run. Took the heads to a machine shop to have them rebuilt, only to get told last week that they cannot repair them do to the cam journals being out of round. Turns out when I had the heads on the 4.6 they were not getting enough oil.....So now I am in the market for some windsor PI heads......

you can use romeo PI heads too.
EDIT2: Did a lot more wiring work on the car. Got the methanol kit pretty much finished up. There's 2 connections that need to be made and it'll have power. Battery relocation has finally finished with all the little niggly bits and details. I semi-permanently mounted my water/methanol tank. It's behind the driver seat attached to the sheet metal just under the driver-side rear window. That's only until I can afford more -6 braided hose, then it goes back to the trunk. I worked on the inlet a little. I need to make a proper mounting plate for the MAF and air filter. Right now it's made of acrylic but that's just a template for the final one. I cleaned up the engine bay a little and put the zip-ties on the finished hoses. Pics later if I remember. It's about 300 bucks from being done. Yee-haw.
EDIT: and I've seen so many L's fling rods out the side that I just don't trust their stock rods. Yes, for the fact that they're stock type (read cheap as they could get to do the job), use a cracked cap design (quite strong actually), are made of powdered steel (advanced technology and pretty tough stuff) and they're cheap to make, they're definitely impressively strong. But that only means they're the purdiest sows ear among sows ears. When they near their limit they don't bend much they just snap which inevitably leads to a perforated block. H beams will tend to bend a good bit before they'll break and you'll have a several revs of serious noise and imbalance to realize you have to shut it down before catastrophic failure. The 03 cobra rods on the other hand, they're really impressive for H-beams. I'd never have imagined people yanking 800hp to the ground on a stock shortblock but they do it and those motors live long lives if they're well cared for and 1000hp stock sb cars aren't unheard of. L's give em 500 to the ground and you start asking yourself if you shouldn't really upgrade the bottom end a tad. I realize the 2v-4v thing comes into play there but we're also talking about boost levels in roughly the same ballpark.

Red....I would go with romeo's but I still want to use my Team Breed covers...Call me stupid, but I love the way the look with the polished alluminum and black when I had the motor in the car.....

I hear you on the L Rods R3D and i agree im just saying for a stock rod there not to shabby.and i belive the 03/04 cobras come with the Manley H Beams etc etc and a studded buttom end. So you get what you pay for there that short block is ready to take on almost anything lol.
And whats up with yours Supercharger?Nitrous and Meth?

The nitrous system I think may become a CO2 intercooler sprayer since I can't get any of you ******* to buy it from me. The meth kit is required because of the weak-sauce gas here in California and my high compression not playing well together. If I want to be able to put any timing in the tune I have to cool the charge and add octane. I may still make the nitrous kit a nitrous kit but only with like a 25 shot or so. I don't want to spit a plug or lift a head so I'm trying to keep the power reasonable. The engine should be good to 600 to the ground easy but I'm gunna beat the **** outta it so I figure keep it reasonable.
EDIT: you used the throttle cable from an F-150 right?

Hey guys,
First off, I'd like to say that I've been reading this thread for awhile and have been contemplating this swap for some time now. Last week, I spun a bearing in my 4.6, so amidst all of the tearing apart it dawned on me that this would be the time for the swap I've been all over eBay, craigslist and local salvage yards looking for a used 5.4L shortblock, but can't seem to find anything. I have about $1500-1800, and my PI heads, to work with for the whole swap. I'm planning on just getting everything in and running atm, so stock exhaust manis for now. I've figured costs for timing chains, timing chain covers, 8 bolt flywheel and 11" clutch, headbolts, adapter plates for now (unless anyone's selling an HPS for <$500), new h pipe(running full length BBKs now ), and gaskets.
1) This is the mini checklist I've derived through my internet homework; am I missing anything?
2) Is there, by chance any 5.4L shortblocks lying around?
Thanks for the awesome thread btw

Yea, I used the Throttle cable out of my 02 f-150 with a custom throttle bracket,I currently don't have a return spring on the throttle and the pedal is a little soft since all thats there kicking the pedal back up is the spring on the throttle body.So i have to rig up a return spring.

sweet dude! are you currently running shorties on it? how did the intake come out?

no studs, just bolts. The same bolts that are in your 2v.
