Default throttle body

i used a 99-01 cobra throttle body, its 90mm oval, ebay ~$30. Just had to setup a search and wait for one to appear. Took about 1-2 months.

With the increased airflow requirements of the longer stroke, I'd say go with a 75mm TB with an accompanying elbow. Personally, I am going to use the new BBK one-piece TB/elbow, it's 78mm.

I've got a set of the valve covers but I'm not sure they are for a Romeo engine (but they should be). I'll be busy today between 09:00 AM and 1:00 PM. I'll check them out for 11 bolts then give you a call. If I sell one of them I'd like to go ahead and sell the set. I spent $45 for the pair.

final date is monday. I asked that they be shipped overnight. I'm going to TPS monday to make sure they pull them. If they don't I'm pulling the plates, sending them and then pulling the car and taking it to the chevy dealership.

Default R3D's header fiasco

Maaaannn oh man. I have been following the soap opera that is the header project. And one thing I really don't get is what the big deal is. It seems to me you are willing to pay, are informed and clear about what you want and are willing to help in any way. So...........what is it that causing all the problems. If they took on the job, why will they not either step up and do it OR level with you and either say they can't meet your needs and give the $ back!!! I really don't get it!!

Default one more thing

I am a mechainc at a Ford dealership, senior master certified actually. I am however not a fabrication expert. I can and will fabricate things and can weld decent but I wouldn't say I'm an expert. I can GUARANTEE you that if I had to build a set of long tubes at work, on a lift and with my toolbox at hand that I could. I know it's not a one day cake walk job, but I just can't see why they can't either do the job or level with you and tell you they can't or don't want to do it.

that about sums it up. I don't get it either but at least it's done, back under my control and being actively worked on.

I was extremely patient with the shop that made the headers (RW). That's actually the problem. They now say that if I'd been more of a dick about it that they'd have probably finished faster thanks to the grease+squeaky wheel phenomenae.

Default squeaky wheel

The squeaky wheel thing can be a fine line. If you go too far and they are already less than ambitious, it may be the last straw. I agree, though, I tend to be a little too easy going about stuff. If I could just learn to be total jerk........................

Default new convert to the swap

Hey ya'll. first I'd just like to thank everybody who has put in the time, effort, and research to make this swap so easy to pull off. I was among the many who wanted more power, but wanted to stay N/A. After reading this entire thread(yes, all 200+ pages!), I am hooked on the idea of this swap, and am well into the planning process. As soon as finances make themselves available, I'll be into this full tilt. So far, the plans call for finding a complete motor, gutting it and rebuilding. All new bottom end, ex-crank, aftermarket heads and cams, the requisite HPS intake, and hopefully some long tubes if they come down the pipeline. Goal- I'd be happy with 400hp@crank, and a stupid grin!

Hey wildride02gt

Great to see you here...WELCOME!

You will be very surprised at how easy the ford Modular is to build. If you stay N/A your build will be no more than about $1000 for a stock re-build. One thing for sure is to get better connecting rods!

Every component in my engine is new minus the crank and heads. I have Steen ported heads, TMD(The Mustang Depot) connecting rods, new stock flat top pistons w/rings, all new hardware, and gaskets. Even the block was new and the build only cost about $1200.

Be sure to post any questions! Their is alot of knowledgable Modular guys here ready to spill what they know.

Default New to the modular family

Hey everyone; I went to the '09 Dallas auto show over the weekend and saw fords new truck. The raptor, powerhoused by a 6.2 Liter MODULAR boss motor. Good news for us. Looks like sometime in the next couple of years someone might try to shove one of these behemoth motors into a stang. Just wanted to share that.

Sorry to double post.. My 5.4 water heater tube (im not sure the proper name) does not line up with the heater core tube on the firewall. if i use the one of the 4.6 it sits on one of the ribs in the 5.4's valley. what should i do? also, being a 98gt ive got the old coil packs and plug wires, one the 5.4 timing cover there is room on the driver side of the engine for a pulley, will i need one there? heres a pretty rough drawing off the top of my head of it

the water tube will need to be 'modded' alittle to fit i there. also on the coil paks they will bolt up, just the passenger side will sit at an angle(not a biggie IMO) and as for the pullies, just put then how your 4.6 had them and you'll be fine.

Yeah dont worry about that extra pulley, you can bend the coil bracket to make it alittle more vertical like I did, doesnt really matter though. Coils

LMAO. okay so you did use the 5.4 tube.

also did you use the pulley that sits right next to the driver side coil pack bracket?

ditto that.

JoeyMD: Yes, they have. They were boxing them up yesterday when I went down to TPS. I'll be down at TPS again in a couple hours to hopefully get a tracking number and help them out with my fuel system setup. I had them shipped next day air.

That's not a Mod engine, it's a new engine family altogether. Whiled Ford f'ed up when they decided to make the Modulars for FWD applications (hence the tiny bores), they didn't do the same for the new Boss engine family. Those engines have big bores, and just like the older Ford big blocks, there's just one block and different displacements are obtained by different bore and stroke combos. Plus, 6.2L is on the low side of it's displacement scale.

Ooh, i was just going off of what the company representative told me. 6.2 is still a pretty good jump for the 4.6 mustangs. while the 6.2 is using different bores and strokes, will it bolt up the same way as the 5.4 and 4.6?

Putting one of those in a Stang would be sweet . However, like I said before I'm sure they will be quite expensive. And they better make plenty of power stock, because something tells me aftermarket parts companies will take a while to bring some goodies to the table.

Unfortunately, they are going to see truck duty in stock form so that'll be a no. However, select racers got a 7L 4V protoype that made over 700 hp (check out this past summer's Car Craft). If you can get ahold of those 4V heads, you're gold.

As for putting it in a 'stang, if the exterior dimensions are bigger than a 5.4, I think you're out of luck, unless the larger dimension is only the length and not height and/or width.

Considering the fact that a 460 (7.5L) is narrower than a 4.6, I think it may be possible that the new engines will be smaller than a 5.4. Like you said though, it depends on how they construct it. BTW Joey, did you happen to take any pics of the engine in that truck?
