i suggest to everyone to wait and get the long tubes.... i'm cussing, bleeding, welding, grinding to get my set done before the HPS intake is ready.... and i will never do it again unless i have a complete fab shop at my disposal...
nice who is going to make those?
and when are they going to be available...
can't spill the beans on who the manufacturer is but suffice it to say that they're a HUGE player in our segment of the market. They should be available in the next 2-3 months I'm betting.

Hey R3d, when it comes time for it, what are you gonna do about smog?

same thing you are unfortunately. It'll probably pass the sniffer but any sort of visual inspection will definitely fail once the longtubes are on. My x-pipe still isn't CARB certified either but I'm pretty sure that's going to change to an H-pipe with the longtubes.

where do you live? if you're in california there are things you can do. The 5.4 swap is totally legal as long as you retain all the factory smog equipment. You can go to a referee and even get a little sticker for the door jamb.
EDIT: BTW, longtubes are DEFINITELY happening. It has worked in the past with other headers after modification.

good... as long as i can get my set within the next couple months woot!
good work!
can't promise anything but it's not hard to rig up a jig or set the bending parameters in a computer... the hard part is definitely the first set but we're going to spend a full week on it and do em up nice.

Well I would just like to state that my car is all smogged and don't have to worry about it for another 2 years. PM me if you want some info. on how I passed.

ya, I'm in soCal...I really want to avoid the referee station...guys I know that have gone through say it's a crap shoot, a referee that's a jerk can make you life miserable
just wondering lol... i am thinking about buying one for fun... lol... but wished i had a dyno around so i could by like holy crap... it actually worked......
Well, not really bad news but it is to me damnit.
First, my clutch wouldnt work(10.5" flywheel, 11" clutch)
Drove all the way to mid nc before work today(bout 3 hours one way) to pick up the ONLY flywheel that would work "locally". Got a 03 aluminum flywheel. Go to the shop tonight to install the clutch and trans so I can start the car. Well, what do you know? The pressure plate bolts are diff and it just happens to be the damn size I dont have. Long story short, will be tomm night before I can finish the install and try to put fire to the cyls. Overall Im still very happy with the swap so far, I have about 12 good hours in it and thats including what I done to the bottom end.
Anyway, gonna try to get some pics tomm but to the untrained eye it looks just like a 4.6 engine. The main givaway Ive noticed is the extensions you add to the alt bracket, thats really the only visable thing that gives it away at a quick glance.

If you don't do longtubes and you stick with factory manifolds or FRPP or JBA shorties (CARB certified models) it's entirely unlikely that anyone will notice it's not a 4.6. You'll just want to shoot for as stock a look as you can, so FRPP 70mm TB, one of my ported upper plenums, black paint on the HPS intake and a xe262ah cam. That'll pass visual unless your tester is a mustang fanatic and even then you've got a good 50/50 shot.
I'll have to find a hookup (sorta already have that taken care of) to finagle the smog check.
Another option is for you to register your car in a rural county with more lax smog requirements... Placer county and I think Trinity county are good bets.

Yep.. front yard with a bucket and brush or to any engine machining shop. To get all the rust and crap off them I use a wire brush and a bucket full of 1:1 diluted CLR and water. The machine shop will just hot tank the motor. You can also hose the motor down with PB blaster and a pressure washer.

shakin... consider yourself e-slapped.
You need a 60hp motor to crank out enough air to properly supercharge a v8 engine. This is why electric motors don't work for it... you'd need a 3 phase 220v industrial blower motor.

I am compiling a writeup with tips and tricks I find along the way. Some is general mod tech but the majority is for the 5.4 swap. That reminds me, gotta ask the mother in law where the camera is
ahh R3D dont be jealous cuase i found a great idea to get 50HP out of are cars .... thats a 150$ value for only 29.95$$$ !!! and if you order now you can get 2 i said 2! for 59.95!
lol
here are the new adapters. ther cmc's are ported to fit. the runners are 1.5" long and ~30 degreees cut.
i realize building the clean sheet is going to take longer so i am making these for now. all i have left to do is cut the plates for mounting to the plastic, weld them, and bolt them up.
red me and you have the same color cars... nice to see that wing on the same color mustang as mine... now i might go buy it.....
lol
ill have to post pics of the 2000 Cobra SVO hood when i get it painted and put on for you
so i was looking into the block i bought from the guy on this forum the block is bored to
3.5745 ... thats not even close... to .20 over so am i screwed or is this wright?
