3.8 V6 to a 4.6 V8 swap
i have a question for all of ya. does anyone kno about how much it would cost total to swap out a 3.8 V6 engine for a GT's 4.6 V8? including everything from the accesories to the driveshaft? is this even possible to do with a V6 Stang?

I'm swapping engines, you know why? Because 'daddy' won't pay the extra $3000 per year for insurance.
holy hell. No way.
The point is by time you buy the engine, computer modules, transmission, extra hardware that is required, you could have sold your v6 and used the money you would of used on the v8 swap, and actually buy the GT itself. Not to mention the time and effort into doing all that work, personally, its not worth the time. ANd insurance isnt that much more a year.

Keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you are talking about.
Cobra V8 kit - $6K
V6 --> V8 $5K
Annual Insurance $3K
That's just for the first year. It's cheaper to swap engines. And who cares if it takes work, some people enjoy working on their cars instead of paying a mechanic to do it. Instead of 3 grand a year out the window, that 3 grand can be going into making a car better than you can buy. (320hp cobra motor puts out more horsepower than any stock GT)

your looking at about 3 grand for a crate motor. prob another 2500 for a t56 with drive shaft and pick up an ecu for about 200. this should be your worst case prices. ull prob need different motor mounts but not sure, also need to get wiring harness. good luck.
and for everyone who says insurance i am paying bout 1400 a year for full coverage on my gt 4.6l v8 5 speed convertible so i dont know what ur talking about. i am 18 and the car is in my name.

Mine would be the cost of V6 (about the same as normal cars) + 2-3000 a year more for the GT

Yea well i dont care parents don't make me pay for insurance thank god. Oh well dad was like why get a v6 when insurance is only 30 dollars a month more for a GT. So I guess it worked out for the best i was 17 at the time 18 now.

Holy crap dude, with an attitude like that i dont think many people would be willing to help you out at all. Honestly, it aint worth it. Plain and simple. By the time you got enough money saved up for the swap you will be years older and your insurance premium will be a hell of a lot lower to where you COULD afford the GT insurance. It doesent stay 3,000 forever, ****, i pay less than 800 a year for full coverage on my GT
Hell, Cobra kit? 6k? yeah does that include labor? In fact, i dont think i have EVER seen a 4V 4.6 engine as low as 6 grand, in fact, why the hell pay 10,000 extra for a ****in cobra if you could buy a gt and have the engine swap done for 6k and save 4k. 6k for a cobra engine installed? Yeah. Right. I would be very very very suprised that you could to a 2v V8 swap for under 8 grand. The 2 most expencive parts of a vehical are the frame and engine.
As far as a Cobra engine in a V6? That engine is gonna trash yer rear end. There is a lot more than simply plopping in the V8.
In fact. Why the hell are you even freaking out? Why the attitude? you diddnt even ask! you dont see redlinestang01 throwing a temper tantrum, and he is the one who asked the question!
No wonder your insurance is so damn expencive, if you behave behind the wheel the way you do here then you shouldnt even be driving.
Best advice is this, you are young, you have PLENTY of time to get yourself something way faster than a V6. Enjoy what you have, everything else comes in time. If you drop the money to do the engine swap, yer gonna regret it down the road, trust me.

The labor is going to be free, my bro fixed up his truck after he totalled it. And yea, I know it's a lot more than just popping the new engine in there. Fuel pump, tranny, rear diff, computer, suspension, all that crap.
I think you need to take a chill pill.

LOL
When the hell did this thread even become about you? redlinestang01 is the one who ASKED in the first place, Maybe he doesent have somone to do the labor? He asked and he got solid advice, Keep the 6ixer as it is. Get a GT later when the insurance premium will go down.
And then you enter calling people dumbasses and trying to act as if you have a single clue as to what yer talking about. Grow up kid.

Think about wut u say... please
Ok anyway you guys are all wrong - yea its the same price as the upgrade to a Gt if not more expensive by a cuple hundred - EXCEPT - if u swapped - u could trow in a FORGED GT motor and A BEEFED tranny for that price that you are talkin and actually alot cheper if u did it yourself - SO NO - IT IS ALOT BETTER IDEA TO SWAP MOTORS THAN TRADE INTO A POS STOCK GT MOTOR - go the junk yard get a 4.6 block - then build it - or buy a used motor with tones of mile scheap - then replace the interlas and rebuild it - then trow it in - then u owuld have a 400hp race motor - ready for a s/c nos or turbo for 3k +/-
