Question X-PIPE question

I live in California where they are strict with emissions control. I want to install an X PIPE, but I am worried about passing smog in the future. Will a tuner let me pass smog with the X pipe installed, or do I have to settle for the shorty X pipe that keeps the stock cats and sensors in the same place?

you can buy x pipes with cats and still pass emissions.

Sensors stay in the same place between X and H pipes. As far as smog goes, Im not too sure. CA cars have 6 cats on them, the rest of the country normally has around 4. You can switch to high flow cats and probably get away with it, but I dont know what it takes to fail an emissions test in CA.

Yeah, california has real strict laws. I work at a dealership and on the shipping stickers for the vehicle, its illegal to sell them in like 5 states with california because of emmisions. I dont know how yours works and if they check under the car.

I know, the smog is terrible in LA that's why they are so strict. At least magnaflow makes the shorty x pipe. I talked to someone at steeda and they said you get pretty good results from that x pipe even though it keeps the stock cats... it's a tough choice

I'm for sure not an expert on this by any means, but I'm pretty sure you'd fail because of the visual inspection. They will look for 6 cats, depending on the year of the car because I don't think CA cars have always came with 6 cats. With that said, different counties in california have different rules. There are three different smog tests in CA and it depends what county you live in or if your in a "high smog" area like L.A. ...... Basic Smog check, Enhanced and Partially Enhanced. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/stdpage....ion_mailer.htm If you bump around this site you can put your zip code in and it will tell you what kind of test you will need.

Just get the x pipe with cats and then when it's time to smog it put the original h pipe back on. That's probably the only way you can pass unless you find some shady *** place that will hook you up. Or just get this Magnaflow Shorty X pipe on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00...spagenameZWDVW

I asked my muffler shop if they would put a magnaflow x pipe on my mach and he said it was illegal and gave me the whole lecture, but when there weren't any other customers around they guy said he'd do it, but it wouldn't be on the "books". ha ha ha ha
