Default Springs for VT Stage 2 cam

any suggestions for springs to go with the VT Stage 2 N/A cam? I dont know the specs on how high the stock springs are...how high they sit from the retainer so some help with that please and what springs does anybody with the cam have themselves

they have a spring kit matched to their cams. Give them a call.

but the lift of the cam is .575 and the spring they have have a max lift of .580...isnt that too close for comfort?

I'm betting that it's a .600 spring and they're rating the "real" limit of .580. In any case, call em up and ask. They make the cams. I'd consider .005 to coil bind a lot close but if they're actually selling what patriot calls a .600 spring then it's not likely to be a big issue.

I just checked for you and they carry springs from manley, crower and comp.. you'll find the right spring.

the manley spring is the one with the .580. The other springs are a .550(too small) and the other is a .660. Would the .660 be to strong for the cam? Not enough spring? It comes with retainers also.

a 660 spring would almost certainly require machining to the spring seats in the head. Call VT or call up patriot and ask for a set of their .600 lift springs.

When I picked up a set of VT Stage 2 N/A cams they suggested I go with the Crower springs

I believe Csledd on here used the Manley springs and I've heard from some other people that thats what they used as well.

Yeah i emailed VTengines...the manley spring will actually work with up to a .612 lift. There are customers with REALLY high cam lifts that run that spring and they have had no problems. Must be really under rated.

I runnign those cams with the comps which are rated lower than .575 but the vt guy said they would hold the cam no problem because they were underrated

flowmaster 40s
mac o/r h
bbk cai
very conservative 87 octane tune
thats all that would do anything to the hp....prob lost a few pony's from the 4.10's

Manley or Crower. Comp isnt much better then stock, but they work. Dont call Patriot for anything unless you're calling to bitch them out about a product that broke on you.

LOL...ive heard the patriot rumors so i wont venture into that whole deal. I stuck with the Manley springs. They are rated at a .575 lift but work well with .600 lifts also. Ive had a few messages from people saying that the springs work just fine and have lasted 30k miles. Could someone give me a HP estimate? im getting a dyno tune when i get back from iraq...

4.10
CAI (lightning setup)
75mm throttle body w/spacer
bbk shorty headers
x-body off road w/out cats
VT Stage 2 cam w/agressive tune
thats about it so far....estimate please?

4.10- decrease hp on the dyno by 3-5rwhp. We wont count this though.
CAI (lightning setup)- never heard of this being used on an NA GT. If you've got the MAF too then your tune is dangerously off and you're running super lean. Wont help you once the car is tuned either because youve only got a 75mm t\b. Ill give you 5rwhp though.
75mm throttle body w/spacer- This only gives you about 5rwhp. Spacer= 0rwhp.
bbk shorty headers- 5rwhp
x-body off road w/out cats- 5rwhp
VT Stage 2 cam w/agressive tune- 15- 20rwhp

So lets say you are at 235- 240rwhp stock. Your mods will put you around 270rwhp- 275rwhp SAE. You wont be anywhere near 300rwhp SAE. This is assuming you're a 5 speed.

I would go with Manley or Crower like stated above. I have Manley's to go in with my VT Stage 3 blower cams. But they will go in a VT Sportsmans Short Block when I order it.

To give you an idea.I have a 97GT with full PI swap ,VT2 N/As ,Comp Bee Hive springs (VT website) ,K&N ,Mac o/r H ,Flowmasters ,XCT2 with factory gears and I made 281rwhp and 305tq with a bad exhaust leak on the drivers side mani to H connection.

Only difference is my pistons . I have a much higher C/R than you which is actually boosting my power a bit. We had my car up to 150mph and she ran smoothly with the Comp springs.

So that translates to about 330hp at the fly. Im doin 4.10s which will even better utilize that power in a 5spd.

Crower springs... The manley is a good spring, but if you going to spend the cash you might as well get the best there not that much more..Are thats what I did and it was after learning the hard way.......
