Default Cams and LTs

Ok, I have been watching videos of 4.6 cars with cams, and i know that is going to be my next mod. I already have FRPP 3.73 gear, K/N FIPK (cold air), Bassani O/R x-pipe and Street Competition CB, steeda clutch adjuster kit, and a King Cobra clutch. I have been considering doing the following mods in this order: 1. BBK L/T headers; 2. VT cams (gimme suggestions on whether to go stage 1 or 2) or comp 262s, i have heard stock pistons will not clear the 270s, i really cannot decide on what cams so any imput/personal experience will help tremendously; 3. SCT Dyno Tune by SpeedyDyno in Owensboro, KY. I do not have a larger TB or Plenum or UDPs, i know these will make my car more compatible with the cams, but would they be mandatory? The option of porting my heads is still a possibility, i have heard that the stage 2 vt's work best with ported heads, duh...but will they work with stock heads? I dont want to port my heads and retain the stock cams and getting ported heads and cams is out of the quesion Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you do not need ported heads for vt stage 2's. Im running vt stage 2's with o/r h and flowmaster 40's, bbk cai, stock t/b and plenum so they will work with basically a stock set up

Im from Dawson Springs, roughly 50 miles east of Paducah and close to Madisonville if you know where that is. What kind of gains did you get B-REtt?

That is very impressive and helpful information, 12.7s on drag radials out of a car with bolt ons, cams, and suspension mods, pretty nice. Thanks for the info. Has anyone heard about clearance problems with comp cams xe270ah's?
The cars i have heard with vt stg. 2's sound so sick, thats what i really want. I am going to put LT's on my car first, and has anyone tried to do this themselves, i have access to a lift and a buddy who could prolly do it, what kind of headaches am i getting myself into, but i know the increased exhaust flow really helps with cams. Would Comp beehive valvesprings get the job done with the vt stg. 2's?

tb, plenum and udp's are worthless, they don't make anything more compatible for cams. they simply reduce intake restrictino which may or may not gain or lose you power. No 2 cars react the same... so, what you know you don't know.

Take the vt stage 2 cams and heads if you can pass smog so equipped, just the cams if you're starving for $$$. Get new valvesprings with your cams. Get a good dyno tune, preferably with SCT software.

As for your header install... you're asking so you're not skilled enough. You can extend that answer to pretty much anything. I would recommend you search around the intarw3b and learn as much about your car as you can... then decide on what you can and can't accomplish. Do not take anyone elses word for it... jesus christ this is the internet... how silly a thought is that.
