Default Race coming up need help

I have a 97 gt vert. auto the only mods i have are K&N filter and flowmasters my new o/r x pipes should be here by the weekend. but i have a race coming saturday against one of my friends, are cars are really close to the same quarter mile range. but i want an edge on him. but i don't have anymoney. do any of yall know how to get a little more power for free out of my car.
my dad has a programer for his f150 (its a 2000)(the programer is for 97-03 4.6 or 5.4 engines, but made for trucks) would that work if i put it on or would it just F* up my ECU???
thanks for the imput

and also does anyone have any home made mil pics, i have made some but don't know if they are going to work if you have some plz send em to me..

The flasher wont even load onto your car because it wont have any of the truck ECU codes on it. As for going faster, well its not free and costs money, sadly besides pulling some weight out of the car (jack, spare tire, rear seat, stripping the interior) will cost money.

Like stated above the only cheap go fast mod is dropping weight. Every 100lbs is about a tenth of your 1/4 mile time. You could also disconnect the sway bar, but not sure it will help you too much on the street.

Why don't you just race. Everytime someone wants to race you can't go scavenging around around trying to find free horsepower. Just save up and put some mods on the car. Just race, if you lose you lose and if you win then cool. It's not like your life is riding on this one race. I raced my friend all the time knowing he would beat me everytime. It's just fun to do every once in awhile.

ok as for the mods, the only thing i have done to the car is a K&N filter nothing else on engine. later this week i will get my O/R x-pipe, and i have flowmasters on it. the only reason i'm thinking of the tuner is for later on, when i start to get parts for it. i know it won't help very much now, except for possible firm my autos shift points. do you think its worth it. and i started to think that race it anyways. first race just see what i can do.

Do you have a full catback or just weldins? Also the tuner will come in handy when you throw on the O/R X-pipe. You can shut of your rear o2's. Plus with an O/R pipe, K&N, and Catback you might be running a little lean.

i had a full cat back, but i didn't like the tips and they wouldn't go even soo i just got sick enough of em, and i put some turn downs right after my flowmasters, which made it louder, soo i'm wondering what they will sound like the the O/R pipe. and i have made some Mil eliminators. and i would also like to know if i will get better fuel economy. thats what i really want i know with the O/R pipe i should see some type of change for the better. i had changed my driving till i turned down the flows now i give it more gas jsut to hear em.

The best thing you can do,not the cheapest is gears.4.10's would make it feel like it pulling 40 more horse.

If your in love with the car,but it would be cheaper to sell and get a stick car. You haven't spent lots on mods so dump it and get what you want. I'm not sure what your calling a j-mod?

a j-mod is where you go through and make a couple holes bigger on you auto to make it have better and stronger shift points. ppl say it helps alot. on selling the car and getting another. i don't think my parents will much like that considering i still have $5000 to pay off on it. and then i would have to add some to that because if i upgraded i would go for the new edge style. and then i would want to change my aftermarket hu.. but i guess if i found a really nice deal on another gt vert. with low miles i would take it.

The AODE I had in my GT did real good with a hypertech I got on ebay for less then $150. I don't think it would be worth the cost to put a stick in.
